Combine this with OVTune and it’s even better!

Also some dealers charge, the good ones don’t.

That's shenanigans. charging you for a TSB that they can confirm the status on is shenanigans.

Personal opinion: I have not used OV Tune. Before I got this, I was considering getting OVT, there's a guy local that does it for...200? 300? Can't remember, might have been less, was definitely considering it.

After this - not a chance, I like it enough that I have zero desire to spend more money, it drives spot on in my opinion. I didn't dislike the old tune though, I just had the gear hunting. I also didn't come from a WRX like a lot of people do, and am not expecting it to drive like a high performance car :p

I understand where you're coming from here, but it is still this difference that is not addressed on the latest TSB:

The smoothed power delivery is also a big deal to me. The revised rev limit doesn't hurt either. LoL!

Emphasis mine. If that's worth it to you - hell yeah, do it. Just like heated seats are not worth it to me (even in the northeast). Others, it's a must have. No big deal. Just my 0.02$

Agreed. That is why I like to emphasize my opinions also.

I just wanted to point that out. I spent two tanks on the latest TSB tune that is similar to your 04B81 and had my fill of it. It did provide a great base for the tune.

On seat heaters, I thought after our convertible that I could never go without seat heaters. I'm pretty pleased with my no-option Taco. Even the cloth seats are just fine with me.

Cloth over leather really helps not wanting heated seats  I drove my wife's camry, that shit froze my ass.

    Very true.

The fam is notorious for leaving the seat heaters on in my wife's Subaru. Just a bit is about all that I can do these days.

So went to my stealership today for service and they asked if there was anything else. I described the symptoms as I feel in the vehicle. I told him I found similar issues online via the NHSTA and complaint sites and found TSB-0092-20. Service was completed, I come back and he said “the ECU was not updated because the technician couldn’t replicate the issue (in what appears to be <10 mile drive)”. I didn’t argue just said that I would deal with corporate...he said “hey don’t get mad at me, I am just the middle man”. ToyoCare complaint filed.

Find someone local who can do it, yes the “dealership” is “free”... but they’re idiots half the time.

I asked the dealer to perform the TSB-0092-20 update during my service on January 15th. On January 30th, I was able to take a nice long drive to NY to see my mom. What a nice change!! The shift points felt much better and there wasn't a lot of gear hunting like I had experienced in the past.

My dealer performed the TSB while my truck was in for the fuel pump recall. I asked them to perform it and they did. It's been a little over a week now and I must say there is a vast improvement in drivability (thank you Toyota). The major change I have noticed is that the truck no longer falls flat (lack of torque) during upshifts from gears 1 thru 4 during normal acceleration. Truck wants to go now... far less gear hunting as others have mentioned also. Highly recommend you get this done!

that is the issue with THAT AND OTHER DEALERS... the TSB clearly states, does not have to be replicated by dealer staff. they deserve a poor survey, and yes, that service advisor does too. if his, and the dealerships bonuses (pay) are linked to the surveys, they should do anything and everything, to make sure you are satisfied. pulling the "not my fault card" is not an excuse. good luck on getting yours sorted, it is worth it. Step 1 is to confirm the condition exists. While the owner stating the condition exists should be enough, this is where they are saying "could not replicate."

I'm actually somewhat glad the dealer service people are assholes, because that pushed me to get Techstream and now I will need them even less.

I would love to get TechStream and take care of a lot myself but I am not very computer savvy. May check my local Tacoma group and see if anyone has it and the cable and can help me out for a piece of mind fee.

Took my Tacoma in for the Annual service - went over 5000 miles on the way there. I had them install the aluminum filter housing and they did the ECM update. I left a copy of the TSB on the passenger's seat and just mentioned when I called in to schedule the appointment that I noted the truck seemed to shift often on hills and sometimes lacked power when accelerating. The Tech noted "found vehicle to have lack of power" on the tech sheet. Score!

I bought the replacement on Amazon and just had them put it on when they did a covered oil change so NC from the dealer.

This is the link to the actual TSB - it adjusts the software to improve engine/shifting performance.

I'm having the same issues as all of you. Truck up shifts and doesn't have any torque so then it has to down shift with hesitation for power. I have learned to live with it.

Is there anyone who has done the TSB and regretted it? I guess my concern is I drive a decent amount of High way and don't want MPG hit. Thoughts?

How long did it take for the dealer to do the TSB?
