I just had this done yesterday at my local dealer, along with my normal 20K maintenance. Only drove straight home after, so no idea if it will improve on the frequent shifting I've experienced at speed.

I had my 20k service and fuel pump recall done yesterday on my 19 Sport. I had the TSB in hand and was pretty clear I wanted it done. I dropped it off at 7am and didn’t hear anything all day. Tried to call at 4pm and was told they’d call me back and then I called at 505 and everybody had gone home. Dealerships are the worst. This is my final included service....looking forward to going to a real mechanic after this. I finally got ahold of the guy this morning and he said they wanted to drive it when it was cold and we’re still “diagnosing” shift points or some garbage. I don’t understand how come some places will just do it while my place is giving me so much grief. My truck doesn’t bother me too bad during normal driving, but it makes me nuts in the mountains and the delay of power when I put my foot down seems really excessive. I’m just hoping to make those things a little better. Anybody have luck getting this done in San Diego without a bunch of BS just in case they deny me?

I think you are correct. I don’t have an older 3rd gen to directly compare it to, but I can say my 2021 V6 AT has great acceleration and doesn’t seem to hunt for gears ever. I work in the mountains and live at the base, so I do A LOT of hill climbing, as well as normal city and freeway driving, and I was pleasantly surprised at the overall power and shifting of my new Taco, especially compared to my (wife’s) 2017 4Runner. Makes me wonder if there’s a TSB out on her’s too, because as much as I love the practicality of the 4Runner for our family, it’s kind of a dog in the power dept. It’s also seems to drop 2 gears and nearly redlines often if I just want to casually pass someone on the road and give it more than about 1/2 throttle. That has always bugged me about that thing, but I have none of that with the new Taco.

TSB-0134-16 shows up on the nhtsa site and say that it was updated for later models. You might want to check it out.

My 4Runner & Tacoma experience is opposite! I was driving the Mrs.' 4Runner, 2010 Trail Edition, last night and I had forgotten how nice that truck is to drive compared to the Taco with regards to the transmission behavior. If this TSB addresses that, I will be out of my mind with mirth and glee!

Must be because of the 7 year difference in the 4Runners. I had a 2016 4Runner for 2 years that had the same horrible shift habits as my wife’s 2017. I hope this TSB takes care of that in hers, and I will be out of my mind with glee too, lol! And BTW, you know me from talkbass (I’m The Bass Clef over there)!

I also got this TSB done on my 2019 and it feels great. Hopefully 2.0 Performance comes out soon from OVTune because otherwise this TSB makes all of his other available tunes useless.

A version may, but it won't be the same.

The 2016 and 2017 trucks ECU has a smaller memory capacity, (1.5mb vs 2.0mb) so a 1:1: version will never exist.

well there is still gearing, larger tires etc. but I'm sure we can make 04B33 even better than what it is from this TSB :)

Maybe by Christmas 2021? I hope you can but still waiting on the old performance tunes to be released. I do have 33s and 5.29s and can’t find any issues with the current tune as far as drivability.

I don't have a timeline at the moment, because every time toyota release a big update like this, it makes a lot of my previous work obsolete.

Besides the ECU ID's and MY's, what makes 04B33 and 04B81 so different that you are already supporting 81 but not 33? Just curious since they're both on the same T-SB.

I could be wrong, but 04B81 was out for quite a while, directly from the factory. No reasons were given until the TSB came out. 04B33 just popped up out of the blue. For both, the CUWs weren't available until the TSB.
