Seems I would have had to go back anyways....my radar sensor also falls under another recall and they were going to do it seperate. Now they can do it all at once. The truck does drive better with the new software though!

Yeah I'm pleased with the driving experience - though to be honest I'm surprised at the reduced MPG. I'm averaging about a 1.2 MPG reduction. I drive about 1K miles per week. The other day I had to meet a business partner in a neighboring town (about a 400 mile round trip) - the trip was mostly flat terrain travel - there was no noticeable MPG difference from previous trips. However my daily commute (of 120 miles) has a quite a bit of small mountain travel and that is where the reduction (1.2 MPG) has been experienced.

This is what makes me hesitate. I’m on stock tires and suspension and not that unhappy with the way it currently performs. Im obviously open to improvement but waiting to see what others experience WRT MPG impact before pulling the trigger.

I'm totally stock as well - I keep all my vehicles stock. I like the way it performs on the hills - other than that is not noticeable to me. As much as I drive 40-50K miles per yer it still does not make a big difference. I have ZERO idea, but it seems to task the engine less - shifting less on the hills. I would still probably do it - however not sure if I had not read so much on this forum if I would have even thought about it. I will say my son - who has a 2002 Tacoma - really did not like the way my truck shifted (his is a standard transmission) and he thinks it is MUCH better now.

TSB done. Took about twenty minutes. Free.
Fresh tank of gas and we'll see how it performs now. The first 20 miles were pretty good! Ha!

Doesnt surprise me if its holding onto gears longer and not upshifting further.

I dont drive much and it hasn't been long enough to see the impact on fuel economy. I would take a 1mpg hit in exchange for waking up the trucks performance though. Before it felt like I had 1500 lbs of weight in the bed. The delays in shifting were quite noticeable at times too. Really amazed it has taken Toyota 5 years to get the 3.5L properly programmed.

Has anyone had the dealer try to combine this TSB with the radar TSB? I have an non-trim grille.

you guys having reduction in mileage, if you live in an area with "winter blend fuel" you may be using the winter formula, less efficient than the summer blend. that might be causing the hit to the mileage. think i am going to try to flash mine with techstream to 04b33 myself, tomorrow. Any chance the reduced MPG is just due to winter conditions/fuel and not the ECU tune?

For me it was a mix of both. I need to be really sensitive on the throttle while on the highway now or I will start to slowly increase in speed. If I take care, I was getting 24 mpg on the highway going 70 mph with my mechanically stock TRD sport. My city mileage is still around 18 mpg as long as I'm going 25 mph or 35 mph (those are the sweet spots I found). If I'm constantly in traffic or stop and go city driving, I get around 16-17 mpg. It's the acceleration that kills the mileage.

Can't compare MPG for mine since I moved to 265/75's & a lift just a week before applying the TSB.

Earlier pages listed the vin number of the affected taco’s. I see this thread pertains to 2019. For the heck of it a checked the vin on my 2017 and bingo it’s there. Gonna call the dealer when they open this morning.

Interesting. Let us know how that goes. I thought the ECU memory sizes were different.

Good point - Yeah I thought that also, but during the week our temperatures have fluctuated a lot - some days low of 30 high of 65, others low of 20 and high of 35. I use the same gas station 90% of the time - and have 100% since the tune - I actually fill up/top off the tank every morning - as I fill my coffee cup and get a biscuit.

I check my mileage each commute (my main office commute is 120 miles roundtrip) and it is consistent in reduced MPG. I'm continuing to track - but as of now (including this morning) it has been a 1.2 - 1.7 MPG decrease. I'm driving a lot more than usual right now - averaging about 300-500 miles per day - so i'll continue to track - though that is just the nerd in me (or the boredom from being in the truck so much)...as there is really nothing I will/can do about it. Again - anyone reading this - looking back, I would get the TSB done again. While I care about MPG, I certainly did not buy the truck for its MPG - and obviously MPG is not THAT important, as we own 4 vehicles and the Tacoma is the most fuel efficient of the bunch.

That would be VERY nice if indeed the truck is relearning. I'll know as I certainly pile up miles quickly LOL - 300-500 per day right now.

    Yeah.
The radar thing is a safety campaign, more of a recall than just a TSB. I waited until they had the fuel pumps available to get all my TSB's, recalls, and some minor warranty work done. They had the fuel pump, but didn't have the parts for the radar, still haven't called me back. Mine is stock, though. I think this really depends on the dealer and how you interact with them. There's no reason they can't do it on a non-trim grille other than not wanting to.

Anyway, I have an '18, so they did 0058-18 on mine. I do like how it shifts better.
