It's going to be an issue until they change to an electric fan. Which you think they would have already looking for every last mpg.

    Its not a safety thing.
Recalls are safety - always covered under warranty even out of warranty.
TSB is a technical service bulletin... its a repair procedure for a commonly seen issue - covered under normal warranty 3/36k or sometimes under extended terms.

Needed to route harness through firewall grommet

This is the first tsb I’ve seen where they may not even be able to duplicate prior to repair- essentially going off your word. This seems like something that would be good to have regardless. I’m order for them to test operation they put a cardboard to block air flow so I’m guessing high heat causes the same thing?

Does this have to be done while the truck is still under warranty?

For free but I’m sure they’d be happy to charge you if not. I’d imagine it being quite a bit looking over the tsb

For real. I think I'd rather just live with the problem than let some tech at the dealer do all this. They couldn't even get my first oil change right.

The NHTSA web site also has some non-safety TSBs listed. :notsure:
Where do you see new rad in the TSB? The pusher fan is about $600. Total job at the dealer is probably $1000 if dealer charges the TSB labor rate.

Most of the work is tying into the truck's electrical system so the fan comes on automatically as needed. If DIY you can always wire it to be manually switched. Wiring would be as simple as adding some off road lights.

tell me about it. I’d rather do that. You would think the fan is controlled by computer why can’t a new program fix it.

There is no fan stock. The fix is adding an electric fan.

Stock fan is a clutch fan; it can't spin faster than the engine. The problem occurs in slow traffic with the engine at idle. I suppose Toyota can increase the idle speed even more with the A/C on, but you'll have to get the EPA to loosen up the fuel economy standards first...
