TSB PROBLEM/Dealer

    Alright gentlemen, I have a little problem I'm looking for some advice on. I have a 2011 DC SB.. When I purchased it I purchased it through a buddy of mine at a toyota dealership and I purchased it with a ReadyLift 3 inch lift.. Since then I scrapped the ready lift and went with Fox 2.0/2.5 shocks and coilovers and TC UCA's..

    This is my problem.. I'm realizing I can get more lift out of the front coilover but in order to do so I need to lift the rear up. I brought it to the dealer and brought up the TSB how I'm hearing all types noises when I hit speed bumps and how it sags when under load and they're saying they aren't willing to do the TSB without the Regional Rep looking at it and he said 9 times out of 10 the first they will look at is there is an aftermarket lift on the truck and deny it..

    Now I'm wondering what I can do to get the TSB done.. My brother is a landscaper and I can go to his house load it full of loam and shrubs and bring it to the dealer but that's a pain in the ass.. Anybody have any other recommendations.. Mod's if this is in the wrong seciton feel free to move..

    Have you done anything to lift the rear yet? If not, there's no way they can tie aftermarket parts to the TSB claim.

    FWIW, I didn't need a regional rep to look at my truck when I had the TSB completed. Sounds like the dealership is giving you a hard time for no reason. Contact Toyota Customer Service and get a claim rolling with them. They should give you a claim number and might help pursuade the local dealership to do the work if it's really needed.

    That being said, the purpose of the TSB isn't lift, it's to help carry a load. If you really need it, the truck would be bottoming out under light loads.

    I have the fox 2.0 shocks in the back but that's it.. Can I get the Toyota Customer Service # off their website?

    The shocks shouldn't be a factor for the TSB. They might try to argue that it would be but there's no way a better performing shock crapped out a leaf pack. If anything, it prolonged it's life.

    You rock.. I'm going to call them get a claim going and then load 3 yards of loam in the bed.. I'm gonna have that thing riding on the ground... F'ing stealerships.. .just do the work... I tried to tell them it's a Toyota Service Bulletin meaning this is a problem that others experienced. First thing I told them that it looked bottomed out when I had heavy loads in the back.. Then they start giving me the 5th degree.. just fix it.. pita's..

    If I were you, I'd take a quantifiable weight in the bed. If you bring your truck in over it's payload and it's on the bump stops, that won't show them anything and they'll claim misuse of the truck. If you load up say 500 lbs of sand bags and it's on the bumps, now you have a case.

    The TSB's were put in place as a means for the dealerships to diagnose and fix a particular problem some of their vehicles may experience. Not all TSB's apply and they're not safety recalls which is why some people experience push back from certain dealerships. Good luck!

    FWIW, I had the suspension TSB performed at Prime Toyota in Dedham. I had to call Customer Service and get a claim going and the dealership finally got it done. Mine was bottoming out hard with a 400 lb sport bike in the bed.

    Go to a different dealer with complaint of "rough ride under load" and TSB number in hand. Mine did it no questions asked.

    So here's a question guys:

    I had this TSB performed yesterday. MY truck has some mods in the bed so there is about 400 lbs permanently mounted back there.

    When I pickup up the truck there were no bump stops installed. So I went and asked the mechanic why and he said that there was too much weight in the bed to install the bump stops. This made no sense to me.... Furthermore they informed me that they were unable to align the tires because of the weight... They want me to remove the weight from the bed and bring it back (which I can't and won't do). Is there any validity to these claims?

    No, you HAVE to have bumpstops. They can install. Also I see no reason it can't be aligned... though I see no reason a TSB install woul require one.

    x2 to everything... It is a horrible idea to run the truck without the bump stops with that much weight and also no reason the bump stops couldn't have been installed. Without the bumps, if you bottom out, the shock bottoms out, most likely breaking the shock.

    I actually talked to the service dept yesterday and he said this TSB is quite extensive in terms of everything that needs to be done.. One of the things he mentioned was a 4 wheel alignment.. Again I agree, not sure why you would need one but whatever... They also talked about replaciing front and rear shocks....

    Just to let everyone know I scheduled an appt at my local toyota dealer to have it looked at.. I told the service rep I talked to get about 4 of his heaviest mechanics to sit in the back of the truck and they will see how low it sits..

    I'm worried my fox shocks will take the weight and not sink down as much as they did previous to installing them... :confused:

    Shocks don't carry weight, they dampen the ride. They won't make a big enough difference to say so.

    It's not extensive... it's a new leaf pack and new shocks (which you wouldn't have them do because you already have better shocks). A leaf pack swap shouldn't take them more than a couple hours.

    I just had the tsb done on my truck. Just before that I put the billies on front and rear. At first, they gave me shit about having modified the suspension. However, I pressed them and told them that the tsb was for the leaf springs. the tech went to the manager and the manager had to make a call, but eventually they got it done. Also, they first tried to get me to load the truck and take the tech for a ride so he could see the problem. I laughed at them. moral of the story is don't let the guy that is processing the claim tell you no because of warranty issues due to modifications. take it up with the manager or the warranty company to explain the situation.

    also, you shouldn't have to show them what the problem is on your truck by loading it for them. the tsb explains that there is a load problem... bring in a copy of the tsb in to them and tell them you want it fixed. the rep had no idea what I was talking about until I gave him a copy of the tsb.

    OMG this will never end!!!! So my truck has like 38,500 miles on it so it's not longer covered under the 3yr/36K warranty. I did purchase Toyota ExtraCare so I'm working through them on this... They said flat out they will not cover a TSB.. They will replace the leafs if they are defective/cracked, or ride height.. They also said if they replaced they would replace with the standard 3pack.. To this point I was like fine.. I will be at the dealer tomorrow at 7AM and they can measure ride height.. if the ride height is below spec they will replace and replace with the 3 pack and I would pay the difference between the 3 pack to the 4 pack leaf spring.. I talked to my service advisor buddy and told him i'd give him a case of beer if he told the computer he was putting in a 3 pack but BY ACCIDENT put the 4 pack in it.. Just so sick and tired of it all..

    Oh... also I went to Harr Toyota in Worcester in which he told me he needed to take off my existing shocks as that's part of the TSB and replace it with new OEM's.. I said HELL NO.. he said then we can't do it as we need to send Toyota ExtraCare something back showing it was needed.. LMAO.. Needless to say never going there again.

    x2. Take your new 3 leaf pack and put an AAL in it. An AAL in a brand new leaf pack will actually last quite a while. I wouldn't spend the money on the 4 leaf pack either.
