I went to the dealership for the new car buyers meet and greet. I got 50 dollars in free gas, and I have appointment Friday to have the transmission reprogrammed and new 4 leaf rear springs installed. I talked to the service manager about who pays for the TSB fixes, he says that Toyota pays for it all, and he is glad to do whatever warranty work I have. Go Joe Heitz Toyota of Clarksville Tn. I think I'll have to barrow a TRD Offroad to see what the difference is to my Sport.. or maybe the used supercharged Tacoma they have.. umm....

Well I got the news at the dealer today that my 2010 is included in the leaf spring tsb. Sooo, now I have to go back ANOTHER F&#$@$# day and spend the day there while they put the 4 leaf springs on my BRAND NEW TRUCK!
If you have a 4x4 and have 3 springs then you will need to do the same. I called them and told them I had 3 springs and they still made me bring it to the dealership so they "could look at it". Like I couldn't count to three and they could. It's a shame that out of the 2700 miles I have on my NEW truck that about half of them came from going back and forth to the dealer. They also told me that Tacoma's are about to be listed on the re-call and you will have to bring it in so they can "shorten the gas pedal". What tha hell?!?

You know you don't have to get it done. It's not a recall and will most likely be noticeable only if you haul stuff on a regular basis. In all actuality, the dealer may not find a fault with the three leaf pack and then it would require Toyota's approval to complete the work.

They actually measure the clearance of your truck to decide if they need replacing or not. That's what they did today. So if you don't want a saggy bottom down the road I would get it done now while you can.

I think that was just your dealer's method; I didn't see it in the TSB for sure.

My dealer made me bring the truck back with a load in it. 650 lbs of bagged sand and it sagged badly. Couldn't drive it over their lot bump at any speed without bottoming. The mechanic stood on the rear bumper step (another 200 lbs, says he) and it bottomed firmly on the bumpers. That's what they did to mine.

I'm not sure anything is truely necessary: just a complaint from the customer should do it. That's all the TSB says. I think Toyota expects a certain percentage of customers will want the firmer truck ride and load carrying capacity. But the majority will like the soft SUV ride and aren't compelled to explore anything different. Else why would they leave this situation (and 'solution') to exist for 5 or 6 model years?

Started another thread on this, need advice before tomorrow morning.

Getting the Suspension TSB - Dealer says fronts too??

I have a 2010 Prerunner AC with Toyotech 1.6" lift coils in front and bilstein 5100's set to "0"

Trucks at the dealership now, they've agreed to do the Suspension TSB. He called today and said they need to do the front too? I have ToyoTech lift springs and Bilstein 5100's in the front already. He says according to the TSB he has to un-install my front lift and put new Toyota springs and shocks on the front along with the rear springs and shocks. Also wants me to bring the original shocks and spring to him so he can turn them in as replaced parts.

Anyone come across this? I'd rather him just do the rears and leave the frontend alone but he says he has to follow the procedure which includes installing:
    New rear leaf pack
    New rear shocks
    New front springs
    New front shocks
    Frontend alignment

I asked him if he could just do the rears and say he did the front to save him the work, he said "no it's all or nothing"

Sucks I'm gonna have to reinstall my front lift and get "another" frontend alignment.

It states very clearly in the TSB that the 2009's and 2010's do not need new shocks at all...front or rear.

The TSB covers only the rear leaf springs and a front end alignment. That's it period.

Thank you all!! I got the transmission TSB done a couple days ago and it is truly night and day. Shifts completely smoother - Tortured me when it wouldn’t shift.

And yesterday I got the leaf springs done. Service manager called me, said it was done. I showed up and apparently the tech had put on new bump stops when I didn’t need them so he had to take it all apart again to put my old ones back on. Service manager claimed Toyota Audits the dealerships and they get fined when they install un-warranted parts. No biggie, I can deal with that being as Santa Cruz Toyota gave me zero hassle doing the TSB’s. But the guy said I didn’t need the alignment? Then he started to say how he wouldn’t want to put my truck on the alignment machine for fear he would scratch my rims…

Do you think the alignment is a must?

    Much Appreciated.
    Thank You TW.

After reading all this good info and getting a new 2010 DC TRD Sport I sent my wife in today to ask about the TSB while she was in the area and I am at work. We have an appointment next week to get some accessories installed anyway so the Service Manager said that he would have a look at the springs but mentioned to my wife that my truck already has the springs upgraded from the factory! Me, I call bullshit on that one after reading this thread so next Thursday I will update y'all on what the findings were.
I wish I knew about this TSB before I bought the truck cause I wouldn't have put in the Timbrens and waited to see how she handled the ATV.

If your truck is canadian then yes, you already have the 4 leaf pack. Only U.S. spec trucks got the three leaf packs.

I now have 44,300+ miles on my Tacoma and called the 1-800 number and told them my plight with the TSB and how I could'nt get a call or email through. I talked with the lady for about 20min and she told me to schedual a visit and if they say I need the TSB Toyota would pay for it. I will keep you notified.

I am about to buy a 2010 double cab TRD this Saturday from the dealer, and thought that I would check this site out for anything that I should be aware of.

I ran across this thread about the springs, but there was also a mention of the tranny having a TSB? Since the truck will be new, and I will be hauling/towing should I state that I want these things taken care of at the time of the sale?

Access and Double Cabs only. It doesn't mean you can't try.
