I called San Marcos Toyota this morning and set up the spring TSB for in the morning. No problems at all. They said they would check the tranny tsb also...

UPDATE: Full tsb preformed. Smooth as silk process. Very pleased with the result.

Other than the rear leaf springs, and the trans TSB's...are there any others that would affect the 2010 that I am looking to pick up?

My 2010 DC has less than 2500 miles on it and I can already see "clean spots" on the frame where the bump stops have contacted it and I haven't had anything in the bed that was heavier than a shovel.

My dealer wants to "have a technician look at it". We'll see how that goes...

I agree, I can't believe some of these dealers

It really depends on the dealer, some of us recieved all three, leaf springs, shocks, alignment, Doc

I don't want to hijack the thread but I would rather ask the question in here than to start an entire new one. I contacted the local dealership and they agreed to do the rear leaf TSB but in doing so they said they would also replace my shocks. I was under the impression that the sport and or the off road model did not need new shocks. I plan on doing 5100's all around and don't see a reason to get new ones thrown on the rear. My question really is aren't the new shocks they are putting on the Exact same?

Just to supply one more data point:

I just had the rear leaf springs upgraded by the (Ithaca, NY, "Maguire") dealership on my 2009 Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab. It was quite a hassle to get them to do it. Here is the story summary:

    - Brought in the truck, complaining about the ride when loaded, saying that it felt like it was bottoming out with less than the rated load.

    - Service manager tried to dodge, telling me the TSB didn't cover my truck year. I showed him the updated TSB that added the 09-10 years. He said it didn't cover my body style; I pointed out where the TSB lists Access and Double cabs. He said it didn't cover my VIN (or rather, VDS - the relevant portion of VIN); I had copied down my VDS and showed him how it matched one of those listed in the TSB. Finally they agreed to look at it. I stayed patient and calm through this process, although it was difficult when feeling like I was being bald-faced lied to.

    - Their service tech didn't see evidence of the bumper stops hitting the frame. I asked if bringing it in loaded would give them a better look; they said yes.

    - I bought (17) bags of 60# concrete at Lowes (1020# total) and brought the truck back in. They conceded it rode low, but contended that I had overloaded it, based on the $#@*& yellow sticker that Toyota had lazily applied to all trucks for a time (you know, the one that says your weight capacity has been reduced by "up to 290#"). The dealers (or at least this one) still don't seem to know what this sticker is/was about. I 'reminded' them that the sticker reflected the max capacity reduction for a truck with all the weighty options, and asserted that I had received a replacement sticker giving the true reduction for my 'base model' truck as 4#. I admitted that I could not immediately put my hands on that replacement sticker - I seem to have misfiled it. I weigh 150#, so the load they were seeing was ~1170#, compared to the rated (1300-4=) 1296#. (I then returned the concrete to Lowes.)

    - They had me talk to a service manager who said they had done this spring replacement for a couple customers who were unhappy with the ride afterward. Specifically, he said that the resulting lift to the back end changes the angle of the driveline between the transmission and the axle differential. While the final angle is still 'within spec' when unloaded, the change is enough that at least one other customer felt/heard a harmonic vibration, particularly at ~60mph. He told me that this customer complained enough that they ended up switching him back to the original springs. Reportedly, once the bed is loaded with a couple hundred pounds, it compresses the springs enough to put the driveline closer to straight, and the vibration goes away. I assured him that my wife and I have two other vehicles to use when not hauling stuff, and we would be using it loaded basically always.

    - They finally agreed to order the springs and perform the service. When I went in for my scheduled appointment, someone hadn't put me on the schedule, so they couldn't do the job. Had to make another appointment for the following week. TIP: Confirm your appointment!

    - Job is now done. Springs look good. Ride seems stiffer than before, but not terribly so. No sign of vibration harmonics up to 65mph, unloaded. Have not loaded it or driven extensively yet. Rear end does seem a bit higher, although I did not measure before/after.

Good luck to those who have yet to go through this, and want beefier suspension.

    - Matteo

So... I called my local dealership yesterday and spoke with a service dept rep and mentioned that I was having a "harsh" ride when carrying cargo in the bed of the pickup. I mentioned that it seemed very weak and I asked if this has been a problem with other Tacoma owners. I was momentarily pleased when he asked for my VIN, I gave him the #'s, and he dropped the bomb and told me there are no recalls for my truck. We chatted for a few more minutes and he came to the assumption that I was overloading my truck. Hard to do when the last "heavy" load I hauled was 15 rolls of bermuda sod.

Next, I called the Toyota 800# and spoke with a real nice lady. I mentioned the same complaint from before and said that I'd already contacted my local dealer without much success. She asked for my VIN and of course she had all my information readily available. She asked me what my mileage currently was, approx. 25k, and told me there is a service bulletin for my vehicle that should fix the problem.

I was given a reference # and she told me that the information would be forwarded to the customer service mgr at my local dealership and to expect a phone call for an appointment within the next day or two. I'll update with the latest once and "IF" they do call during that time frame.

Update: Got the phone call this morning (07/15) at about 9:00 AM and they asked me to bring in the truck for inspection. I asked how long the inspection would take and was told, "1 hour". I followed up with asking what was going to happen once they confirmed the problem was there. I assured them there is a problem with the harsh ride and was told they have the parts in stock and it would take approximately 3 hours to get the job done. So I have an appointment first thing tomorrow morning at 7 AM. Things are looking promising.

    Final Update:

Took my truck in this morning at 9 AM because I got stuck at work at the end of my shift. So at 9:30 my truck goes into the service bay... 11:45 AM it rolls out like a champ. TSB made a world of difference on the rear, it's like day & night. They even delivered it back to me washed with the alignment performed as required. Absolutely no hassle what so ever and they even gave me free chocolate chip cookies and drinks while I waited! LOL! I am very pleased to say the least!

I took my dbl cab in to the dealership today to see if I "needed" the TSB done. My truck now has 44,000+ miles and I have notified Toyota of the my dealerships unwillingness to help me out. I am now waiting on a call back from the warrenty office. The estimate was $2,130.10.

Had my spring upgrade performed today, truck definitely has a much smother ride. Did not notice any big difference with rough riding. Will load it this weekend with wood so that will be the test.

I had my rear spring tsb completed today and I have noticed a definite vibration at 60mph that was not there before the new springs. I called the dealership and have not recieved a call back. The new springs are great and it did help the ride and the feel of the truck but with this vibration something must be wrong. Any ideas?

I purchased my truck new in April of 2010, it was manufactured in March 2010. (I got it the day the dealership received it, had ordered it while still being built).

Would it qualify for the TSB, or would it already have what it needed?
