I took my "09 taco 4x4 double cab into the dealer for this TSB and they said my rig was fine. But when I load it with even so much as a boat and trailer it squats pretty good. Had a large fridge and a dishwasher in it the other day and it was squatted down quite a lot for what little weight these units weighed. Any idea if this is normal or do I need the TSB? I live in the frozen north but this summer the rear end was squeaking like crazy. Now that its cold...nothing.

I guess what I'm asking is: is the dealer obligated to update my pickup if the TSB exists and my rig falls within the models affected?

Since I'm a newb at this I'm just asking here but it looks like only NON-TRD 4 doors are affected is this what you guys read?

    Thanks, Steve

Sounds like, since I'm a Regular Cab, that I'm SOL.

So guys, If I'm having this problem, is Toyota requierd to do the work free? I have a 2007 Tacoma Prerunner w/TRD- I've noticed excesive sqeaking in the springs and it easily bottoms out unloaded or loaded while going through intersections at a moderate speed. (intersections that have a rise in them from the cross street) I have found this annoying and my passengers have commented on it.

My truck is at my dealer right now. I'm getting my brakes done and my accelerator pedal reshaped today so I mentioned the TSB and the harsh ride I was having. He said to bring in the TSB and leave it on the seat when I drop it off...I'm hoping that's all I needed to do and they don't give me any trouble. He also said they will run my VIN# to see if any additional service/recalls need to be completed.

I'm guessing I'll get a call saying theyre not going to do it. We'll see...

If their going to run your vin to see if there's any other additional service/recalls why do they need you to print and leave the TSB on the seat? Surely if we have access to a service bulletin the dealership has to have it.

here is my question..along the lines of what would you do.

I installed the toytec aal to my truck (2010 DC TRD) and now wonder of I have them do the spring tsb would it then be to high? Also I am worried that they would do the tsb and leave out my aal's???

    What are your thoughts?

You'd be surprised....I complained about my radio going out and the guy said that he had never heard of that issue. It's a fairly well known problem  Probably best to be on the safe side and just have it printed out.

I thought the same thing but I'd rather them know exactly what I'm talking about, rather than feed me a bunch of BS.

How the heck do I determine if my Tacoma qualifies, are there certain VIN#s?
    I have a 2009 Access Cab 4cyl SR5 Manual transmission.

What does VDSs refer too ?

Nope. Applies to Double cabs and Access cabs only, for TRD and non-TRD, 2005-2010.

The latest rev clarifies which component/service packages are to be installed: non-TRD 2005-2008 or non-TRD 2009-2010/TRD 2005-2010, as applicable. Non-TRDs 2009-2010 and TRDs 2005-2010 already (supposedly) have the beefier shocks and only get the spring packs.

Vehicle Descriptor Section = 4th thru 9th characters of the VIN.

It also includes PreRunners, too? Do they have to have access cabs?

Can anyone elaborate on this TSB? I'm just finding this thread. What should I look for? Is it necessary for me to get this done? What are leaf springs?

I called the salesman that sold me my 2010 Dbl cab 4x4 asking about this TSB. He told me "I'm sure they did that". Obviously he has no clue, especially since it came from another dealership. They just want to get out of doing the work since they still have to pay the technician for the work even though you don't pay for it. In the same call I complained about the brakes making a squishy sound (coming from the pedal area). He danced around it and said that they could take a look when I brought it in for the first scheduled maintenance, in 4k miles. Bottom line, they try their best to avoid doing work that you are not going to pay them to do.

Wrong person to call. Check with the service manager.

Toyota covers the cost. It's under your warranty.

Has anyone who has had the TSB done regretted it???

I have a 09 DC, LB, TRD Sport, 4x4. I do a bunch of quad riding, I load the thing up constantly with work related heavy boxes. Not uncommon to have 900 pounds in there at least once per week.

I already know and have posted pics on this site that my truck has not had the TSB and has the "bad" leaf springs.

    My questions is this....

How much harsher does it ride? Does anyone regret getting it done?

Thanks to all the posts. I called my dealership and at first the guy I spoke to was not clear on the TSB. He checked into it and said my 08 Double Cab 4x4 qualified. He ordered the parts, called when they were in, and did the job with no problems at all. He was very specific to tell me that if they did the TSB and I was not happy with the ride, it was on my dime to have it switched back. I am very happy I did the TSB, however have not had a chance to tow/haul with it yet. Good luck and if you are close to Canton, OH go to Cain Toyota. (FYI: I think it was about $1600 worth of work from the invoice I signed that they had to turn in for their reimbursement from Toyota)

Correct me if I'm wrong...but reading this TSB:

    " Note:

The 2009-2010 model year non-TRD option package truck is already equipped with updated shock absorbers and bump stops. Do NOT replace the shock absorbers or bump stops. "

Doesn't sound like the 09-2010's were included on anything to me. Just sounds like they can officially not do the TSB....is anyone else reading it that way?
