    Hi everyone,

I purchased an 06 Tacoma back in March with 80k miles on itand took it in for service the other day. I was told I have a leak on the timing cover and that it was going to cost $2100 dollars to fix this. I had purchased an extended warranty through the Toyota dealer and they are refusing to fix the issue because it is a seal and gasket which my warranty does not apparently cover. The Toyota dealer is using a 3rd party warranty company.

Any suggestions on moving forward at this point in time? The dealer said it was fine to leave as long as I watch the oil level but I would rather have this fixed.

I have also seen varying prices from $1500 to the highest being mine at $2100.

Any thoughts welcome, and thank you!

Get a refund on the obviously useless warranty and have them repair the leaky seals and gaskets. Seriously, leaky gaskets and seals can have a cascading effect on the lifespan of rubber and plastic components under the hood of your truck. What happens when that leaky timing chain cover starts to drip onto your lower radiator hose? Well, it starts to swell, and when that happens, not good... CV boots with longterm exposure to leaky engines, not good. Toyotas are known for their reliability but only you can extend that lifespan by making good choices.

My thoughts exactly, I would rather just take care of this and be done with it. Already in the process of cancelling the warranty. Since they have to drop most of the front end to complete this they want to flush the radiator and also bleed the brakes. Looking like $2400 after everything.

The radiator flush and brake bleed are a preventative maintenance issue.

You don't mention what engine you have, but if you have the 2.7L, you might want to have a look at this thread.

Never had a extended warranty that was any good. There all mostly BS. Good luck OP.

    Ah, forgot to mention it's a 4.0 V6.

I had an 07 Tacoma before with a MasterTech warranty that I was actually pretty happy with. This new warranty is a much lower quality sadly. Looks like I'm fitting the bill for the fix despite an extended warranty. Live and learn.

    Thanks for all the replies!
