I know absolutely nothing about my truck....other than, 1- I've always wanted a Taco
2- I have the weird shifting points and no real throttle response.

I go in tomorrow for my 5,000 mile service. (2023 TRD 4x4)
What the hell Exactly am I asking for...A service bulletin
that encourages dealers to tweak the transmission shift points? Like a computer program update??
Thanks for keeping it Very simple for me.

Two answers. 1-it takes more than 5,000 miles for the transmission to learn proper shifting techniques. 2-Sadly, that is the way these trucks drive. The only way to unlock a little extra response and better the shift points is to get a tune. If the dealer does a transmission relearn, you will be starting all over with the transmission shift points.

You can ask about the transmission TSB, plenty of info here if you search for it.

However I doubt you need the update being a 2023. You are just experiencing the funky programming that toyota uses for their transmissions. All sounds normal.

Correct. There are no engine / trans TSBs for the 2022 and 2023 Tacos.

As mentioned, you can try,, but there is a very good chance you have the latest version.
    One should understand a couple things;
    1. The big GOV is handing out mandates and rewarding or penalizing MFG’s for efficiency and emissions, so they are tuned first and foremost for that.
    2. This engine makes power in the upper RPM ranges, has TWO overdrive gears, is heavy AF, and has the aero of a wall,,,, add to that your topper is adding much weight and drag

You can look to a tune, there is a dedicated section here

I would say to give your truck around 1500mi then go from there on the shifting. You can mention it to the dealer and maybe they have something for you but a common theme with these trucks is that the shift scheduling is a little too excited to get into the higher gears and leaded to hunting for a gear with persistent shifting.

One of the most common reason tunes are a selling point for people is because they describe the shifting as clunky, inconsistent, clumsy, unpredictable, etc and we can adjust shift points to make that no longer a concern

Based on my bio you can probably tell which tune I have a bias towards.

    If you're interested,
This is our page on Tacomaworld https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/kdmax-pro-10-0-tune-by-paparee-and-twtaco.713699/

We also have a website which has a "nearest tuner" location tool. Website is https://kdmaxprotuning.com/

I'm happy to answer any questions about tuning or if I know where you're located or you send me a pm I can directly get you in contact with your nearest tuner who would also love to assist you with more info if you're interested

Try using the S mode especially in hilly windy roads. Don't be afraid to run up the RPM's.

I find that keeping my RPM's around 2500 and let the truck ease into speed and shift works good for me.
Especially during the first 5000-10000 miles.

I rarely push it up to 3000+

Find reasonable gas mileage as a result to boot.
