Just visited a local dealership and I was going to book an appointment to resolve squeaky clutch and the advisor told me that since mines a 16' and not under 3 yr /60 km they wont look at it?

    This true for TSB s?

I'd call Toyota corporate and see if there is anything they can do.

I'm sure that is the case. Mine is a 2017 purchased in Aug of 2016. I wouldn't expect anything free from Toyota.

Doesn’t make sense especially if it is a safety issue

I spoke to a service Manager about TSB's and he said they aren't required nor covered after the warranty expires, they aren't the same as a recall. He said a TSB is nothing more than a guideline for service techs to follow so they dont waste time trying to diagnose it. They recognize it's a common problem and create a TSB to minimize tech overhead.

If vehicle "X" experience "Y" Symptoms, follow TSB "Z"

    /\ This.

A TSB is not treated like a recall. It is a Service Bulletin and is basically a guideline for the tech to follow. It will have a diagnostic flow chart and if your case falls under repair required, it will tell the tech how to proceed. You can be charged if out of warranty and you need the repair.

True, I was told it would be their diagnostic charge before coming into dealer. Once there since it was directly linked to drivetrain (50k warranty) it was free.

TSB’s offer diagnostic or alternative repair procedures and/or parts to repair the vehicle. In order for it to be done at no cost, warranty must still be in effect.

How long that is depends on which warranty applies to the component. Occasionally Toyota will extend warranty for a specific concern either as a special policy or as a customer satisfaction recall. All of the above will expire.

The only recalls with no expiry are safety recalls.

The only real exception to any of this is if Toyota is willing to use goodwill to extend you an offer to cover a portion of work outside of warranty.

Most TSB’s will fall under 3y/36k (60k km).

Toyota’s warranty says they will fix any problems with your clutch until a certain point. If it’s past that, they’ve held up their end of the deal - you’re on your own from here.

I can confirm its 3-60km for the clutch pedal TSB, unless you're close to the cut off and have a good service history it won't be covered.

It's a bear to replace the pedal, but annoying that it squeaked after the warranty expired.

I can tell you nothing works except replacement, white lithium, graphite spray nothing. It's the frame of the pedal which is metal.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm on the hook now I guess. I have to go back into the other thread and find the fix.

I was just at the parts store and saw silicon and teflon lube on sale for 3 bucks lol. I remember something in the TSB thread about a quick fix.
