    Hi folks,

I have a question - that hopefully somebody is able to answer:

My 2014 TRD Off Road has a TSC (Trailer sway control). I assume that the system must know when a trailer is hooked and I also assume that the system will find it out via the trailer plug.
Due to German regulations I had to change the complete trailer plug and needed to connect some of the lights directly to the vehicle tail lamps.
I am not sure now if the system is able to detect the trailer being hooked.

Does anybody know which of the 5 wires
    - black-red = fused trailer brake controller battery feed
    - green = headlamp switch to the vehicle trail lamps
    - green-white = vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller (input)
    - brown = trailer ground
    - red = trailer electric brake feed from brake controller (output)

is responsible for the TSC working?

I would appreciate any feedback, many thanks!

Ich bin nicht hundert Prozent sicher, aber ich wuerde sagen rot, Anhaengerbremse Ausgang. Ich basiere meine Theorie auf dem Prinzip der Elimination. Pretty sure anyway. ;)

I looked at the 06 taco Doc link provided and did not see a wiring diagram for the trailer connections. I also looked at the prints I have for my 2012 - and although I can find the wiring print for my 2012 - the wiring colors are not even close to what you see - so I assume that the wiring has changed/different color codes.

I am NOT familiar with the Braking system for the trailer - So I hope others will jump in an correct me if I'm wrong ....

    - Per some of the Docs I looked at - they mention trouble codes. I suggest you read your error codes - Just to be sure the computer is happy.

    - I "Assume", from looking at my vehicle electrical prints, the following (and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong in my wild ass assumptions.

The Trail brake wire ( you say the red wire) will go active then the brakes are applied?. And Also when the Vehicle senses a skid it activates the trailer brake (red) wire to use the trailer to tug on the vehicle to straighten out the skid ?? IF this is correct - the way I see the wiring diagram, The Trailer is not "Sensed" - the power to the trailer devices are given all the time as the truck ECU sees fit. IF so, You can step on the brake and see of the Brake wire goes active. Between this and checking codes it should give some level of assurance. Please to not trust this info until others confirm.

If you run across the wiring diagrams for your vehicle, I'd be happy to look them over .....

Best of Luck and be sure you get this checked properly.

One last thought, Since the new connecter is mandated in Germany, any Toyota / and /or reliable service station may have the info or a simple LED test plug to check your plug and check your codes .

many thanks all of you...gets me a bit closer to the answer...
    and 'username' pretty good German!

I am not so sure...if the red brake wire needs a connection...that would mean that the TSC only works with a trailer with an electric brake and not with an overrun brake...but (and this is something I don't know as I am not familiar with USA trailer brakes) in case this wire would also be used for the brake light in the trailer....might be a possibility...
With my limited electrical understanding (ok ok...a bit more than that) I would undertake that the system is detecting a trailer with a changed resistance in the tail light and the brake connectiog...also to learn if the trailer has an electric or an overrun or no brake...but this is all a guess...

Let's see what happens when I am in the first critical situation with atrailer hooked on...didn't have a TCS in my '93 80Series and in my '99 Hilux...

Again thanks to all of you....much appreciated!!!!

I should hope so, I lived there for 7 years and stole one of your women. :D

The colors are different, but this is generally how we hook up the brake controllers here. The electric brake controller just changes the voltage that goes to the trailer brakes, and allows adjustment for different towing speeds.
