starting to wonder if it was the engine that cut and not the brakes (tss) as she doesnt recall any beeps as the dealer said it beeps?

I wasn’t even talking to you when I said that directly to someone else.

And you weren’t even in the truck so you don’t even know what happened. But I’m sure she’s so high on your pedestal that she can do no wrong. No way possible she got to close to someone in front of her and that’s why the TSS put on the brakes.

Have fun ripping it out. I’m sure your insurance company will love the reason why when your wife actually does rear end someone next time because of no TSS

I agree with those who say this function is garbage! Holding a solid 65mph, a car cuts over 3 lanes from my left to exit the freeway. I knew I would have enough time to step on the brake pedal and press the off on the cruise switch and coast to slow down. Instead the truck decided to brake very harshly causing vehicles behind me to scatter like cockroaches and almost cuased a big accident.

Even when I turn this garbage function off, the sensor will regulate my distance from vehicles in front of me. This is the only flaw and my dislike about the 18 Taco.

I can only hope Toyota will soon release a delete for this hideous invention.

The dealer didn't find the vehicle applied the brakes at all? Or didn't find the brake applying abnormal?

It's already been mentioned but you can completely disable TSS in the settings.

So you're saying you've turned the cruise off?

I've used the cruise for many miles, my truck never acts like this. I see you have a lift listed in your profile. Did you have it recalibrated? I also see you swapped out the grille. It's not really toyota's fault your truck is acting this way. You've made changes to it.

My 2018 has acted for no reason in my opinion. It has slammed on the brakes when a vehicle in front of me turned left in a turn lane. Vehicle was completely in left lane with turn signal on. My vehicle traveled a little bit further and then slammed on the brakes. This has happened on more than one occasion, same circumstance each time. It scares the crap out of you. System has failed completely with a notice to take to dealer. System has been replaced by dealer, weeks later it will tell me system off, clean sensor. It’s going back again, we will see. If it fails for a third time I will push for a lemon law by back. I am not happy with a vehicle that either scares the crap out of you or does not function. I no I can disable the system, but then look at a light that says system off. Great resale item, “yeah the fancy cruise control doesn’t work “, you wanna buy it.

First day that I took delivery of the truck with 5 miles on it this happened. I’m settings, under PCS, I turn the sensitivity down and turn the function off. However with the system being turned off and I am in cruise control mode, it will still slow me down if I get to close to a vehicle.

Has happened bone stock and happens now

You just hold it 3 seconds. I mentioned that quite a few posts ago. You replied to it.

I wasn’t quoting you but it appears tacomaworld quoting is acting up.

But regardless of who said what, are you guys saying adaptive cruise is not working properly?

It's working properly. If you don't want adaptive cruise to brake for you, hold the button 3 seconds. You may want to watch a couple YouTube videos on how tss works.

My wife had an Outback and now an Ascent with Subaru's version of this. Although I like mine in the 2018 Tacoma, it doesn't hold a candle to Subaru's.

Huh so that’s why that’s there. I haven’t looked up why it says “hold” on the cruise control yet.

Since seeing this thread I’ve been testing the TSS. I have it on it’s highest sensitivity and I’ve let it approach traffic in and out of cruise control without idling or applying the brake myself. It has not even set off the “BRAKE!” warning or applied the brakes even when cars are doing some pretty weird maneuvers while close to me. Besides the occasional beep when it sees a parked car in a business park, it doesn’t freak out. So far it seems fine to me as long as I don’t lift it (which I don’t plan on doing anyway).
