TSS Delete

Is there a way to delete or permanently delete the TSS?

 

Is there a way for my Tacoma to be able to tell which drivers behind me don’t have their safety precautions enabled?

 

why

 

the consumer wants a vehicle without said features. If there’s not a way, said consumer will trade in vehicle for an older model.

 

can it be turned off?

 

Only until the vehicle is started again. Not a solution I’d like. If there was a tuner to keep these things off, I’d go that route.

You can use Carista to enable memory for turning it off. That way they can turn it off and leave it off. Only thing is, the light will be on forever. May want to disassemble the cluster and put some electrical tape over the LED behind the panel or something.

 

What about all the drivers behind you who don’t have safety precautions to begin with?

 

I did the same thing on my truck and friends 4runner using techstream though.

 

Yeah, that would work as well. Carista is a bit easier to access to the general public but since this is being done for a customer than I’m guessing OP works at the dealer and probably has access to TS anyways.

Fortunately fewer by the day. All the idiots driving around looking at their cell phones need some help to keep from rear ending people. I wonder what happens if you disable the TSS and rear end someone. Insurance companies look for any reason to deny…

 

That is an interesting thought. Any computer change leaves a footprint, so they just might one day be able to claim it was "your fault" for turning safety stuff off.

 

Toyota dealers offer to disable it for you when they install lift kits, so it’s hard to imagine it being that big of a deal. You also have the option to turn it off for one drive session right in the instrument cluster menu…..I don’t think the law or insurance can force you to use your vehicle’s features.

 

That’s a good point. All valid points on here. I’m just feeling some of these safety features can save a life. I know I have definitely looked up and seen somebody looking down at their phone while getting ready to plow into me and I’m confident that whatever system it was kicked in and saved my ass and I’m grateful for that. I have no doubt this has happened to others too. I also know that it has saved my ass when I was looking down at the radio. As annoying as it can be at times I’m leaving mine on all the time.

 

I’m with you, it has saved me once when everybody hit the brakes in front of me due to a cone merge no one behind any car could see. The only thing I don’t like about it is the incessant beeping in times when there really is no danger. Such as a car I’m sorta close to but am fully aware of and don’t need to be beeped at about it. Oh well though. So I can see why some want to disable it, although I wouldn’t personally.
