I think we all know what a waiver is for :)

EXACTLY, it wasn’t offered pre 18 which was the point. And turning it off would be no different than driving a 16-17.

Do you have the tss recall? Do you have a non stock grill? Do you have bigger tires? Do you have a lift? Then you can get them to do this without technically asking. At first the recall was 50/50 if they would do it in those cases. Then the dealers got the letter from Toyota that they should get a waiver and then they would disable it (because they claim they couldn’t calibrate it)… for the purpose of the recall. The recall obviously means THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE TSS SYSTEM. So by Toyota not doing anything would be far worse than turning it off. Let’s say the tss malfunctions and braked for no reason causing an accident on its own which is the reason for them disabling it on modified trucks that have the recall.

If you don’t have the recall then yes you’ll have to pay for it because it then doesn’t fall under warranty. Or you can find a member that has techstream or do it yourself

why do you get the error light? Is it because of a bad sensor in the grill? I had to exchange the sensor on my after market grill and then the light error went away for me when I swapped it out.

Just curious, what does a recall worthy problem look like. I've had it brake on me a couple times while I was pulling into a parking space. Takes a while to let go too. With a MT that = stall out the engine. Not exactly super dangerous but not exactly a safe condition either.

I would of suggested plugging it back in and get the recall done and having them tell you you have to sign this waiver to turn it off because of the mods you installed. But since you have an aftermarket grill and disconnected it I’m not sure. Maybe you can plug it back in and temp install the little box by zip ties and walk in saying I’m in for the tss recall  surely they would turn it off then.

But either way it can be done (even if you end up paying). I’ve seen the post/document that explains this and the setting change but I’m not going to search for it

Plug the sensor back in, tuck it away, use toyota tech stream to set TSS to disable on start up. Done.

you have a reliable source to download it from? How much is it? Will the OV Tune cable work to connect laptop to truck?

I'll do my search again and PM you with the info.. The version I used worked great. It also worked with the Tactrix obd connector that came with my OVtune kit

I found this TSB on another TW post: T-SB-0059-18

I agree 100% and to add to that, it also encourages drivers to be distracted more often than what most of them already are.

I have a 2015 DCSB 4.0 TRD O/R and I removed the actual buzzer from behind the instrument cluster, did the ABS disable mod via a switch (for off roading) & no more SAIS air pump concerns. I like things as simple as possible, and no ding... ding... ding... ding noise and yes, I do wear my seat belt. I may be buying a 2020 4Runner & those are coming out with TSS as well. I will look into having the dealership do the TSB but I may just buy Techstream for myself so I can explore all the settings on this vehicle.

Sorry if the answer to my question is very obvious but what is Techstream? A wire? A plug? An adapter for an OBDII scanner? Software? I honestly do not know and when I Google Techstream I get MANY options.

I attached the actual TSB to this post and it says that only 1 of the 3 Techstreams listed will be necessary to perform this modification. For those that have done this, which Techstream did you use?

    Thank you

If you need your truck to brake for you, you shouldn't be driving. If you pay so little attention while driving, that you think this is good, you shouldn't be driving, ride the bus....

You can be in a wreck as quick as it takes you to turn your head to check a blind spot. Has nothing to do with people paying more attention than others or not. It’s there for the rare (or in some sad cedes, often) event that someone doesn’t see something happening fast enough to react in time.

Techstream is the program that lets you interact with the trucks computer and change settings. I messed with it for like 4 hours and couldn't figure out how to turn TSS off. I've had an error code ever since. I've been driving with the sensor unplugged because i refuse to drive a vehicle that won't let me make emergency decisions. Imagine TSS braking because a tiny deer was in front of you and a 18 wheeler was behind you... No thanks!

we might have more confidence in it if it wasn't immediately recalled.

Mine has beeped loudly at me several times when I was fully aware of what's happening on the road in front of me. Keeps beeping well after I've applied the brakes.

Following to see if the pre collision system can be switched off as default.
