Maybe a Toyota mechanic/technician can chime in...???

Another thing I'd like to know is why the aftermarket pro grilles don't mount the TSS sensor in the center of the grille behind the 'O' in Toyota. Then the height would be the same and the grille would look cleaner (and I could use it as a base for the Satoshi grill I want).

I know @FreshMexicanTaco noted that there can be problems with the garnish (which seems weird to me since the plastic should be electronically transparent - the stock grill has plenty of plastic there including some fake chrome plating which is certainly metallic). Maybe the problem isn't the garnish but rather the mounting which gets corrected when garnishes are exchanged.

The OEM TRD Pro Grill has the TSS sensor in the same position...not in the center like the non-TRD Pro Grill...which is what's on my Taco.

Not sure if the OEM TRD Pro Grill is preset with the correct angle anyway.

The TSS sensor itself is more-than-likely manufactured the same without angle dynamic changes...at least, that's my thinking.

Until one fit checks/functional checks the change, it's unknown the result of the change.

When I had my issue last year, they had string and plump bobs set right in the front and rear of my bumpers and some graph paper looking poster thing on the wall in the front of the tech bay. I only saw it cuz my trailer hitch was locked on and they called me in to remove it so they could get the correct measurements or whatever the bobs did for it. They must use lasers or something to line everything up.

The mounting "pads" are the same, only in different locations. Probably the best explanation of how the TSS sensors work, was done by Robmotive, who I know a lot of people can't stand, because of his whiny voice, but a lot of the time, he puts out some good stuff. He did a video where he explains how the TSS works, and that it actually works IN CONJUNCTION with the CAMERA that is in the top center of the windshield. To prove it, had covered up the camera, and then, the sensor, one at a time, and after doing so, the PCS OFF light would come on in the dash, indicating that something was wrong with the sensor system. So oddly enough, while most people on here have to adjust the angle of the sensor when they switch from the OEM grill to a TRD Pro style grill, nobody has ever said anything about adjusting the camera angle, which I don't even think can be done! It is not difficult really, I mean, you have to take the grill off anyway to switch out to the TRD pro grill, so while you are switching them out and then transferring the sensor, at that time, just insert 1-3 very thin washers between the TOP SCREW on the sensor and the mounting point, thereby pushing back the top of the sensor and thus, pointing the sensor up at the slightest angle. This should do it.

These after market Pro grill issues seem to be so random? I bought a cheap ass knock-off pro grill from mcautoparts.com that came with a cheap ass knock-off sensor garnish plate. I installed it almost a year ago now, with no shims or extra washers and it works flawlessly (meaning not a single TSS issue ever!).

All good points...I don't have a front camera on my TRD Sport.

Here's the install for the Empyre TRD grill I purchased. At the 6:12 point, he mentions the washer/spacer.

I was going to chime in and suggest this. Sorry it didnt work. I have an aftermarket grille, took it in because the TSS wasnt working at all. The service guy said he could fix it, but it would cost me. He told me what to do, and low and behold, a couple rubber washers around the bottom two screws of the sensor, angled it perfectly. Now works like a charm. Best of luck with your fix. The adaptive cruise control is awesome!!

Wish you all could post photos of the washer set ups , so any of us who may wants a pro grille know what we are getting into before doing it.

I think the PCA uses both the camera and the sensor...The adaptive cruise uses the radar... the auto hi beams and Lane Departure Warning use the camera only. The camera is probably a fairly wide angle so might not need any adjusting if its in the ball park.

I'll see if I can snap some pics today of what I did. Nothing scientific or sexy with what I did, but it worked.

Everything, except the ones I haven't done yet ;)
I bought a OEM TRD Pro Grille and a $11 Chinesium TSS cover and no errors. Luck of the draw I guess.
