Fun times, my first car was a ‘67 bug. Couldn’t do highway speeds but it was a beast in the mud!

 

Sorry, that was the ‘69. The ‘67 wouldn’t clear a speed bump.

 

Red the armor underneath at all times! Leave a blood trail!

 

68 bug until I sold all 3 cylinders of if for $44.73. The Crazymobile it was. (Sorry, no digital, but that was painted on the doors).
Then I got the 66 390 Galaxie 4 door from dad. I can verify it would hit 140 in the country.

 

Ironically, I also had a big block Galaxy, painted flat black, and, a guy in a Bug cut across 3 lanes of traffic to try to make a right turn. I was in the 4th lane just reaching cruising speed. The impact spun him around 2 times and removed the engine in the process. I think the Galaxy suffered a small scratch. To make matters worse, the guy was given a ticket for reckless driving and leaving the scene of the accident when he walked two blocks to call the cops. True story.

 

I got the Galaxie because years before, in helping wash the car, my job was the hubcaps, with SOS pads. Well, they made them all shiny now don't they. Can you guess what I did when I washed it all by myself later....?

That whole pale brown thing. Every inch was shiny until I finished drying it...…

Now I don't feel so bad. I used the side edge of a window squeegee once to break the ice off the top of my 75' Eldorado tonneau top. I was so proud to make sure that ice wasn't on there. Until it all melted and I saw I had put hundreds of cracks the shape of that squeegee in the leather top

That was the last of Grampa's Fords. Dad was moving on to compacts like the second bug, then the Corona (yes)


I drove the Galaxie a few years, and traded it for a 1954 F-100. Had my 53 Chevy Sedan Delivery in the interim. These all worked out as great as you would expect for a broke roadie with no resources....

 

Gonzo! Hope to get the wife to the beach at Corpus soon, and it will be in the truck with the Tru-Trac!

 

Yeah, whatever they called pale gold back then. Dad did NOT kill me, he just went inside. What do you tell a 10 year old that washed the car without being asked.....?

yes it is. might let my wife drive the 4runner at P.I.N.S

 

if - no WHEN - we go down there, wife will drive us either to or from the 5 mile marker - we're happy around there, and I want her to understand the reason I got the Tru-Trac is just that we are confident about coming and going. ( I mean at PINS)

 

I dunno. Could be my fathers son.....
Should be a 1968 hippie as well.
I will have you know, Dad drove both those cars solo to CA and back.
