The “Texas” attitude is gone, when was the last time someone waved at you in traffic?

Earlier today :anonymous: sounds like you need to move to Cedar Park. Everyone waves suburban/rural one lane roads

edit: I find its when you venture out to neighborhoods you know are full of people form out of state/country, like Travisso, where people don't wave

Once you get out of the major cities and off the interstates, Texas driving is still Texas driving. When you're within Californian distance of Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston, it all goes to shit.

Last time we went up to Abilene people always moved over when I came up behind them. Several waved...the Texas way.

Just as soon as we were on the other side of Llano coming back, it all went to shit!

I remember when we put drive cams on the ambulances, they set them super sensitive and would do off for a fart at the wrong time. But man were they great when there were crashes, made explaining that someone else did something stupid so much easier to the boss.

    To all you Motorcycle Riders,
    What are you riding?
What do you think is a good weekend cruising bike?
    What brand/models should one avoid?

Very true, I deliver as far north as Killeen and San Antonio on the south side. Constantly driving through residential areas that are hard to navigate in a smart car.

When you have to get out and explain to people that parking two feet off your front bumper is a bad idea then you begin to lose faith in humanity. I was very civil and pc in that conversation until she wanted to call my supervisor. I had to tell her about the waiver she signed saying she would deal with construction traffic so she could move in before the neighborhood was completed. It ended in a standoff, I’m on the clock and can’t move forward or backwards. That went well.

Stick with big brands for parts availability and no more than 10 years old. Sit on lots of bikes and see what feels right.

Sure you don't want to ask for the best oil or tires?? ;)

To be honest, first thing I would decide on is bike type. Cruiser, sport tourer, sport, dual sport. From there you can decide on brands, as some are better/worse in each area. Depending on the person, you may have to decide on engine type and/or drive type, as some are a bit religious in this area to. Personally, I would recommend a beginner to start with a used smaller (300-600cc say) bike to learn how to ride and get comfortable, and to see if they want to stay with it. If they decide to move on, they can decide what and where they want to ride and upgrade from there.

Guy ask me if I knew anyone that rode, I said yeah (you guy's). He then asked me to ask the generalized questions. Think he's just starting the search and is trying to narrow it down. What's got a good rep, what has a bad rep kind of thing.

    ex cycle mechanic, here.

select a bike that as been in production (unchanged) for about 5 years. allows the big 4 to knock the bugs out.
out of the 30 plus bikes i have owned: Honda for fit and finish. Yamaha as a favourite, and currently own a Japanese market, 1st year of production WR-250X SuperMoto. (Yes. there were two recalls...)

Frankly, a WR-250 \ DRZ-400 around town is tons of fun. The dual purpose will let you tinker off-road, but has very good street manners. The Suzuki DRZ-350-400 has been in production longer than some people have been alive. Tons available used, metric tons of mods\bolt ons..

    tons o fun

    How many fingers?

I was running to a PT appt. last week, down Parmer to Avery Ranch, and this :censored: decided that she didn't like me driving the speed limit behind her. From 1431 south to Brushy Creek, she blocked me by driving next to this dump truck, speeding up when I tried to pass on the right, brake checking, and other types of buffoonery, all while driving 15 miles under the speed limit of 65. I was only slightly surprised to find a nicely dressed grandma of around 65, when I pulled up next to her at the stop light, as she has to wait for the light to turn left. She declined my request to roll her window to chat, so I simply had to hurl :censored: a bit/lot louder.
