well it's a million mile engine so you tell me...


It's been called "the most reliable Toyota engine" and "possibly the most reliable engine ever made." Those might be biased though. But the fact is there's been several that have gone 1M miles

 

I've heard complaints about the power to weight on that particular set up from a few. But if you don't plan to hot rod it and just need to tow 7k lbs or so around east Texas you should be fine. It doesn't tow well in the Hill Country I've heard.

Why? Mine has 217k and it's fucking beast. But I also invsted in changing all the fluids, timing belt, spark plugs, water pump, installed 12 hole injectors, new tstat blah blah blah. What you wanna tow? I can come over today and do a demonstration for you
I don't have to be at work til 2000.

Nah that's pretty fair. 200k is nothing if the timing belt and water pump have been done. If not do em. 1 million mile engine bruh.

the smaller V8 in the 2nd gen tundy is a screamer it likes to rev It’s a very robust little motor.

 

I’ve never heard that about it but the rear half of the frame looks like it’s twerking on rougher roads though.

When I did field service work for a few years had a rental one for a week I really liked the sr base with the small V8 it was fun to drive. Had about 800lbs of tools/equipment in the bed didn’t squat and was suprisingly quick.

The 3rd gen tacos do that too though. Toyota claims "the frame is fully boxed until the rear portion which is c channeled to flex better off road" and since its the same frame as the 2nd gen and both had plastic beds I imagine it's worse. Unless the lesser gen tundras have plastic beds as well. Not sure. Mines metal.
