OK, it's Monday. Confirmed. AC guys were here last week, adding the annual Freon (or whatever it's called now) which lasts a year due to a leak in the A coil. Which, we're going to replace because age, and construction. So they were here this am already.
Can't get to it to work on it in the attic, so it has to be removed (which was mostly expected), and will need replaced (which was mostly expected). They'll get back with a quote.
AND, they won't fix it unless they fix the illegally installed vent pipe, which the installer cobbled into the new system about a decade ago. It's got a sideways and down bend, and is held together with metal tape. New pipe, new hole in roof, cap on the old.
Can't wait until he calls me back with the price....

 

Dayum your gonna have to come out of retirement for that one.

 

Hope not, but going to grab some savings dollars for sure. checking dollars are pretty well allocated into a shed!

 

If you had a home warranty in place, the cost would be < $100...

I didn't like the quotes on this old house. Might look again, but I don't want another bill, rather just pay it. BTW, did I say I hate insurance?

 

I got bored yesterday and went on a baking spree. Made a loaf of white bread, some Irish Soda bread, Guiness Loaf, loaf of banana bread, and a tray of red velvet muffins. I'm ready to toss a soiré when this is all over. Lol.

 

Are you doing an entire new system for the whole house, or just one unit in the house? If you are going to replace everything, look at the Daiken mini split system with ceiling cassettes. Much cheaper for an entire system, and lower energy cost.

 

No just an A coil. Have a good mini in the sunroom. HOUSE is fine, just oversized, and industrial. A decade ago, when what was left of the original AC (70's) was replaced, the only guy in town that could be bothered did commercial industrial. This HOUSE INSTALL was a side thing. FRIEND OF A FRIEND. Now, that's are actually a few a.c. folks in town. AND no, no one else wants to come all the way OUT here still.

It's always worked well for us.

 

You're a lot more modern in a place with lots of services. If I went backwards on the last quote for a decade, I'm losing money on insurance.
