I just have nerf bars but here is a look at the 4" I really like them, they are much "beefier" than the standard 3" ones...

    Neither...get Rock Sliders :)

You can still use them as a step and they are WAY stronger!!

For sure. AP sliders are beefy. Not like the cheesy tube steps. I have a set in the shop right now that I'm coating for a customer. I can't believe how well built they are. Have a set made with fill plates so that you can have the step area enlarged. You could even use a bed liner of some sort to give it a rough surface so it's not slippery when wet.

All that may be true, but ask yourself, what is the main purpose for wanting to get them in the first place. For me, I needed a wide step (4") for my daughter who has physical disabilities to be able to get into the truck. I looked at running boards as well, but couldn't find a set that I liked or that had all SS hardware like my 4" all SS Steelcraft Oval Nerf Bars have.

Call the company that makes the sliders and tell them what you need, they will be able to do all sorts of stuff for you and you will still get the protection.
