I find that the pictures on most slider vendor's sites don't really show how far they stick out. My neighbor has 4x4 Labs sliders on his T4R and they seem to stick out a mile. I want to protect my rockers, but I don't (think) I need a lot of side protection for radical rocky trails. And I don't want steps, or something that drags dirt or mud across my ankles when I get in and out. So who makes a nicely tucked-in bolt-on slider for 3rd gens? Thanks.

The point of a slider is to protect you from rocks but also from side obstacles like rocks or trees - hence the kickout option for some sliders.

A tucked in slider isn't much good, they're designed to stick out a little further than your truck at the same plane so you're not pivoting on a $35k piece of sheet metal.

Or just order weld on ones and trim the mounting arms so that they are more slim mounted. But like what was said above, it's a good idea to have even the non knockout portion stick out some. It might be OK if the trail is perfectly level, but when it's offcamber and the rock or tree is still vertical, you'll be thankful they stick out.

Yeah, I realize why they stick out and have had enough experience to think (hah!) I don't need it, since I don't plan on doing anything to hard core. I realize I could regret that decision but I still want to hear about options.

    Custom sliders, I guess.

You should probably ask a fabricator to chime in, like one you had in mind. I'll start with @JLee.

Ours stick past the outer most part of the truck by 1". I can easily make them shorter so that you aren't dragging a leg across them when getting out. If you want to, email me and we can discuss specifics.

Another thing to consider, and perhaps the thing that people will use their sliders the most for, is that sliders will utterly destroy the door of any moron who parks next to you and swings their door out too fast. Tucked sliders won't do this.
