You guys have any recommendations for weekend trips out of Tucson? I just moved here at the end of April, I’ll either be around until December or for an additional 3 years... waiting to find out! I have made a few trips up NE of Payson trying to fish and camp a bit... just looking for some trees and higher elevation so my dog doesn’t have a heat stroke. Thanks.

You’ll probably have to head up near the rim (Flagstaff, Sedona, Grand canyon, etc) to escape these temps. Backside of Mt Lemmon would be a good quick overnight trip.

A friend of mine went up to Hannagan Meadow a few weeks ago and said it wasn’t too bad

Just got back from a few days in the Gila Nat'l Forest in New Mexico. It's a quick trip from Tucson and easier than going through PHX or Payson to hit Flagstaff/NAZ. Plus, the forests there aren't shut down completely ;) We ran into two fires there, but we found plenty of roads to explore outside of the closed areas.

What brand of battery is good for use around here - running single in the factory spot? My original Taco battery (towing package) died in two years - I have the factory warranty replacement in there now - but now closing in on two years again. I had a Sears DieHard Gold in my old F-150 and it lasted about 6 years here as a DD - it had a factory heat shield in place and I kept the water level up .... but it may have had better cooling air flow than the Taco. Several electrical engineers have told me that heat is the killer of batteries here.

More and more people are going to an agm sealed battery the days it seems. I've always ran a duralast gold battery and usually get 4 to 5 yrs out of them. I hear good things about Costco and Walmart batteries too though, especially when it comes to warranties

There is a Northstar Group Buy going on right now. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/northstar-battery-group-buy-6-0.552594/

I bought one for my Land Cruiser a couple years ago and it’s doing great.

I meant to reply to this last week... Turkey creek north of Wilcox(there's several Turkey creeks in az) mt. Lemon of course, mt. Graham, alpine, pinetop, globe, etc. Lots of places to check out and a surprising amount of lakes as well.

Alright who’s up for a trail run. Moving to Phoenix next month and I need some dirt time before I’m consumed by school.
