Interesting. And ya, I guess I haven't paid enough attention to the space (or lack of) next to the tank... well dang. I'll take a look into Alcans again. It'd be nice to have a better ride back there vs the Dakars. Exhaust not an issue because it currently dumps at the rear of the cab so I'll be rerouting it back there eventually anyway.

That's the space you're working with between the tank and driveline. (My tank is actually relocated up 2 inches)

    20240116_172933.jpg

Here's a shot back the other way.

And of course I had to shove 10 more pounds of crap in a 5 pound sack by adding a rear winch lol

Is it just me or does your axle have a slight downward bend on both sides?
Looks sick though. What's the benefit of going longer leafs?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Optical illusion with the way the light is on the truss on the back of the axle.

That drove me nuts looking at it (worried about that). But the tubes are exactly straight. If they weren't, the axle shafts wouldn't have fit perfectly like they did. LOL.

But good eye... I was looking at the same thing every time I looked at the back end of the truck from the garage.

The longer leafs SUPPOSEDLY get more droop. (That's what people say about 63s anyway). And they ride more smoothly (I will agree with that).

The jury is still out on whether or not I hate the Chevy 63s to be honest.

I also carry a bunch of weight on the truck. The 63s are a 1 ton set. (5 pack / thick). I started with 4 leafs, but I think I'm going to put the 5th in. It was too soft in back on my first test trip, (King of the Hammers) and bottomed out too much.

Here's what I mean by truss on the back of the axle housing.

The truss isn't perfectly level with the ground (can't be) due to how it matches to the bends on the pumpkin, and the angle of the pinion.

    Too bad you're not closer...

I have a set of Alcans, with brand new bushings and adjustable shackles for sale lol.

    20231111_144200.jpg

Alcans are WAY better than Dakars.

Here's the Flex they were giving me.

    20230910_130859.jpg 20230910_130737 (1).jpg 20230910_130752 (1).jpg

Those are 35s. And that's a shorter (width) axle.

    v nice
I just sent them an inquiry with my application wants, waiting for an email back

So would you recommend also doing a traction bar with the Alcans? If for peace of mind of doing all that's pragmatic, if nothing else

With Alcans, I don't think you would need a traction bar.

I wheel hard. And even with 35s I don't remember ever having the axle wrap, or excessive wheel hop.

However another reason I wanted to do a traction bar is it mirrors the driveline, it should help a little keeping rocks off the lower end of the driveline, or at least spread the impact/weight of a hit.

For me it's less about offroad and more about on - the initial dig from a stop, if that matters

I don't really drive on road that hard. So, the initial "launch" doesn't matter to me.

But, a similar situation would be climbing a 5 foot waterfall from a stop and having to give it the beans to bump up.

Never had axle wrap in that situation.

If you can 4 link the rear for $1k, why not go that route?

Honestly, 4 link would probably be around 3k+ minimum considering the DOM tubing, heim types, Air shock/coilovers/Ori and brackets.

My Fox 2.5x14 rear coilovers cost $2,500

Just kinda going off what I see here:
    4x https://www.tmrcustoms.com/collecti...minum-links-2-diameter?variant=43049406038206
    8x https://www.tmrcustoms.com/collections/newest-products/products/fk-rod-end-1-1-4-12-thread-1-hole
Then the mounts for a couple hundred

Around $1500-$2000 ballpark depending on length/thickness

If I did DOM instead it'd be much cheaper
I'd be leaving the leafs in...unless that's impossible because of the shackle?

2k will not be enough IMO. For the aluminum link, your looking at $1k for 4. $760 for 8 heim and jam nut. $200 for 16 misalignment for the heim. ~$700 for all brackets on frame/axle & coilover tower and let's say you went with $1500 coilovers.

That's ~$4160.00 without tax and shipping.
