Just a heads up to those who bought and installed the lockable Tuffy Bed Box. Its a great product and mine has never leaked. I store my cargo net and straps in one and a long set of jumper cables is in the other.

However I got a nasty surprised when I looked under my new frame and saw the bottom of the boxes rusting. At $180 a piece, its worth pulling them out and removing the rust and repainting them every few years....

I wire brushed and painted mine, Ill check them again next year and do a better job next winter.

    Sorry to see that.

It makes me seriously rethink dropping the money on one. Either that or figure a good way to rust-proof it initially.

I just spent $225 powder coating a bumper. Id hate to see what they would charge for two of these. Maybe after next winter....

Apparently Tuffy Security Products is now aware of the problem, and modified their installation instructions in Aug 2015:

Thanks to 2 or 3 emails I sent them.

Any idea what rubber spray they might be referring to?

I just got an Eastwood catalog in the mail last week. There were a ton of products that might be useful here, both for cleaning up the rust, and preventing it in the future.

Idk, I understand the shitty powdercoat could have a good part in it. but youve also got to account for the fact that it's mounted right behind a tire, catching spray. You're also in boston, where they most likely heavily salt the roads. :notsure:

Hi, please spend around ~$180 on our product, and then go buy some other stuff to put on our product otherwise it'll fail. Thank you for supporting our half-ass product. Please come again.
