I know there are some threads on this but I haven't seen a straight forward answer anywhere. I've been running 5100s on my truck for about a year and while they've done their job I feel the truck has outgrown them. I am looking for a somewhat budget way to have longer control arms on the truck to get more travel without buying a full LT kit. Does anyone have experience fitting tundra control arms on a 1st gen taco? I've heard of land cruisers doing it but I haven't found anything for tacomas. I'm aware I'll have to weld a new LCA mount, but does anyone know if stock tundra CVs work? Any insight is appreciated.

Not that I've heard of anyone doing it (or showing desire to do so) but I would imagine your shocks will be your biggest inhibitor followed by your CV axles (if OEM).

If your CV axles are not OEM, those things bind up pretty easily at full drop even on a mid-travel setup.

I've never heard of anyone completing a Tundra front end swap on a Tacoma. I've found a few threads talking about the idea but they all go stale without showing real results. Here's one of the better threads I've read: A cheap OEM-based long travel setup would be desirable for a lot of people, so the fact that it doesn't seem to have been done makes me assume it's not feasible--but I'd love to see how it goes if you try it.

As far as the CVs themselves, folks have used Tundra CVs with aftermarket long travel arms. See here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/modified-tundra-cv-shafts.262558/

I don't own a Tundra, but from what I've read around the internet: First gen Tundras use the same diffs and first gen Tacomas. Early (01-04) Tundras also use the same hub/spindle assemblies. Later (05-06) Tundras use an upgraded LBJ and spindle design, but I think still use the same wheel bearings as earlier trucks/Tacomas. In other words, if you can get the arms (both upper and lower) to bolt up, then the biggest unknown about compatibility is whether the OE Tundra CV will be the right length.

One other quirk: Double cab Tundras are 4" wider than regular cab and access cab trucks. I'm not sure what changed in the front suspension geo to accomplish that. Sequoias are also closely related and might be worth looking at for donor parts.

If you can trucks in a junkyard to talk some measurements, you'll probably be able to answer a lot of questions. Keep us posted, it sounds like an entertaining project if you have the means, skills, and motivation.
