Driving is bad enough but then try parking that beast in a big crowded metro area... Especially in LA ...I lived there for 10 years and had a full sized truck there. Parking and getting in/out of parking lots was a total PITA

    2016 Tacoma 4X4 TRD
Just purchased a 2016 4x4 DC 6" bed TRD Sport Tacoma. Traded in my 2008 DC Tundra for it last week. Got 15 for the trade in.

Love my new truck, the only thing I am having a hard time with is the size difference. I knew this would be the case, but who wouldn't. Size is great for me, can park it in my garage now, go in parking structures again, it's great.

As for the original post, how would you ever compare the two.

It's all about personal preference. I came to the Tacoma from a 2014 F250 Lariat crew cab, 4X4 Powerstroke , tuned, DPF/EGR deleted. You want to talk about power, you dont know power!! Plus 19mpg. Great truck. HUGE! I sold my camper last year and didnt need a bus anymore. That thing was a pain in the ass in a parking lot. I still need a truck and the Tacoma fits the bill. What I cant understand is why you want two trucks!??

Got rid of my jeep because I could not keep it out of the shop. Just driving it on the road broke stuff.

    Right?
Who would've thunk comparing a full size is twice the truck of a midsize.

If I were less financially responsible, I'd have a double-cab 2016 TRD Pro Tundra in mag gray.

But, I can't justify spending that kind of money.

A Tacoma OR or Sport 4x4 msrp around $38K with Nav and moonroof. And silly as can be, without power seats.

A Tundra Limited 4x4 msrp around $47K with Nav, moonroof, and yes, even with that incredibly lux feature - power seats.

That's $9K difference. Where does $20K come from?

I'd love a Tundra but to get one the way I want it and with the options I want I would be in the low 50's as opposed to a Tacoma I am in the high 30's. If I had a need for a full size on a regular basis I could easily justify it but the midsize Tacoma will fit the bill more often than not for a lot less money. Trust me I would love nothing more than a Tundra but just can't justify the additional expense.

OP..Thanks for the post. Seems like lots of butt hurt here. I want to know MORE about this since I own a 2012 DCLB Sport (which will be given to my son next year) and want to get the Tundra. The only hesitation is gas mileage since I drive about 300 miles a weeks 70/30 City/freeway. How BAD is the Tundra doing with gas mileage? A Limited Tundra ($47k) can be had for about $42k which is roughly the same as the NEW Taco limited.

    Thanks.

Has anyone mentioned styling? Because I would drive the shit out of that Silver Tacoma. Wouldn't be caught dead in that orange Tundra.

No, just get rid of that aweful transmission and make it to where it accelerates better without using WOT. I really believe a 3.5 turbo with slightly closer transmission ratios would make the Tacoma a giant killer.

    How about price difference?

I bought a Tacoma because it was right for my budget, and it fits in my small city garage.

I like driving Tunrdas at work, but with my small drive to work I'd have brutal mileage, and I like offroading, and out here full sized don't go near our trails.

    To each their own.

I adore regular cab supercharged tunrdas though, fucking quick for an import truck.

All BS aside, you'll get an honest 14-16 mpg depending on your driving habits and terrain. I've got 19 mpg babying it on the flatland but most generally in the 14 range overall running 5-9mph over.

Fuelly is showing an average of 15.4 Tundra vs 18.5 Taco (both 2016). Roughly 20% difference FWIW.

That is based on quite a bit of data, so it should cover an average of all driving types.

Well slap my bottom with peanut butter and roll me is crushed peanuts Batman; the only way mine gets 22.5 mpg is if it being towed by a tow truck!
