Had to purchase a welder and opted to use one that was a new style hand held one. The original owner of the seats which I purchased from looked puzzled when I told him they were going to be installed in my single cab Tacoma.I like some challenges when modded any of my personal vehicles to my taste.Let me tell you that removing the original mounts on the tundra seats was a pain in the ass.I had to add another length of steel to the brackets that were made for me by a company that make custom brackets for super high end seats $$$, which I cant afford. Let me say that I have a better view looking out and still have a little headroom. Oh yeah seat belts had to modded as well because tundra ones were different(sorry no pics of that)20240518_130820.jpg

Are those Corbeau brackets? How did that welder work? What did you weld?

Scheel-Mann seats was the bracket that was made for me and I modded it to fit Tundra seats because I knew they were the widest ones.

Have any measurements of the height difference before/after?

Hard for me to tell from the photo. Do you feel like that inverter welder penetrated the steel well enough? I am just curious about how that tiny welder works!

I am considering doing something similar. Not sure what seats I would use though. How tall are you?

I’d recommend the Corbeau brackets, they’re the lowest profile I found, and keeping the seat/sliders low is key. I had many go rounds with seats including using Subaru Crosstrek seats where I removed the feet from the sliders and welded the Tacoma OEM seat feet to them.

The biggest issue I ran into was seat height, that setup had my head a couple inches from the headliner and I’d hit my head on the door jam when trying to poke my head out the window to see where I was going

I went to Corbeau brackets which helped, then drilled out the stops on the Crosstrek seats to get the back to go forward as far as possible, then changed to sliders to get as much forward travel as possible.

Consider that if in an extended cab, access to the back became very difficult.

Even after dropping the brackets another 3/4” by recessing under the seat, the seat base was too high so have some aftermarket seats now. Recaros are the final step, just $2400, who doesn’t have they lying around?.

I’d take measurements, sit in the seats you’re thinking of swapping in if you can, it can get frustrating.

1st gen cabs are designed for shorter folks. I’m 6’1” and I’m pretty sure if I get in a serious crash my neck is toast. Anyone taller than me looks straight up wrong sitting in my truck(I have a short giant for a good friend and he looks like a sardine in a tin can)
Not sure if they had a max height rating for these trucks or not?
