Tundras, 4runners and 1st gen Tacomas have strut assemblies with flat top plates which is why they are easily interchangeable. 2nd gen Tacomas have a different style of top plate commonly referred to as a "top hat." That is why Tundra struts will not work on a 2nd. gen Tacoma. The top plates can't be switched because the threaded studs on top of tundra struts aren't long enough to use with the top hat plates required on a 2nd. gen Tacoma.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.

That's good info, what about just swapping the coils only to get the higher rated progressive spring? I guess I would need to measure the coils, but perhaps you already know. I understand both Taco and Tundra have progressive springs rates, but for different weights at rest (this seems like it would retain the "plush" ride when not offroad and cranking down the highway. I can check front axle weights and probably just get coils from a 2WD V6 Tundra instead of a TRD V8 Tundra coil. The OME 887, I believe, are a linear spring which may contribute to a more firm ride along the highway. Not being picky, just trying to ensure I compare apples to apples.

xtyfighterx, so can you put 887 on stock TRD sport tuned shocks and keep proper alignment on stock UCAs? I don't care about the lift and don't want to get into changing UCA or LCAs, and just need to properly support the additional weight upfront while maintaining stock steering geometry.

you may be correct, the 9100's come on the "Baja" edition, along with the resi's in the rear.i'll assume the advertised "lift" comes from the spring height with that package.

    ^ Terrible advice...(and they're struts, not shocks)

I'd also recommend not preloading stock coils on an adjustable shock and then putting a bumper and winch on it.

OP, if you're going to play you need to pay. Buy the right parts and save some cash by assembling the coilover yourself.

Do it right for the sake of safety, not just to have a sticker. Bilsteins with the right coil set at 0 is a good option for what you want to do. Remember that shocks and struts are wear parts. Braking and steering in adverse conditions are negatively affected when these parts are worn.

    Siesta,
I acknowledge all on the wear and safety issues. If you go bilsteins all around with the proper coil setting for the load up front, is there any other leveling or adjustments necessary to keep stock geometry? Is there a specific bilstein kit or perhaps a sponsor on here that consistently puts these together, minus strut assembly of course, given auxillery equipment? I see the OME stuff pretty well laid out and have no issue assembling the struts myself. I just keep reading about spacers and blocks and i dont want to mess with any camber or dive into uca swap out as well. Thanks.

Swapping coils could probably be done but the end result in ride quality and suspension lift would be an unknown. If you feel like gambling a couple hundred bucks and reporting the results, I'm sure the info would be greatly appreciated.

The various OME coils give known results in height and ride quality, which is why everyone is pointing you in that direction. If you're bargain-inclined and a litttle bit patient, you can find everything you want in the buy/sell/trade sections of various Toyota forums.

Never said it was the best way but it can be done. Would I do it? no but plenty of people run spacer lifts on stock struts. If he doesn't want to spend money then these are the easy way outs until something beaks. But I do I agree with you play a little more money and do it right I mean for under 500 5100s and some ome springs that's a great, buy and will,do everything he intends.

Of course you can but like I said it's not the best way and not sure how long it would last. Every truck is different so I can't give you a honest answer on alignment if you want to stay around 2in of lift you are most likley going to be fine. But honesty I would just save up till you can do it right you will be much happier and safer.
