Before my Taco, I owned a Tundra. Bought it in 2008 brand new. Drove it for almost twelve trouble free years. I wouldn’t own a dodge product if you gave it to me. I almost bought a Gladiator instead of the Taco but got over it and came to my senses...

Was that a new ram with the ZF 8 speed that was going out? Haven't heard a ton about the 8 speed

Curious if you wouldn't mind expounding on that. What did you not like about the Raptor vs the Tundra?

I have owned a couple of Ram 1500's and a Ram 2500...If I were looking between the Tundra and Ram I would wait to see what the Tundra is going to do and buy either the new Tundra or the current (they will both be available at the same time). I enjoyed both of my trucks but traded them at the first sign of trouble, they were nice trucks, just not confidence inspiring long term, what is even worse long term is their resale value...it is HORRIBLE compared to other trucks.

I am also waiting to see what capabilities they come up with on the tundra, if the towing and payload is right, that may be my next full size.

The rebel rides and drives really well. It's actually a pretty good looking RAM product. And the 8-speed in it is a decent transmission too, a first for Chrysler.

The Tundra pulled the space shuttle. Enough said.

You won't go wrong with a Tundra. look at it this way, get a tundra now. And in two years in the new one comes out, go check it out. If you really like it, you'll get a good trade in on your current one with brand loyalty and all of that. And if you don't like it, well you bought the most robust truck the planet has ever seen so you're good to go.

That’s the thing about domestic trucks. They are all awesome- when new. Put some miles and a few years on them though and you’ll regret it. Some people change cars every year or two and those are the ones you always hear from about how great the domestics are. If you hold on to your vehicles long term - as do I - Toyota is the only way to go.

The Raptor is super fun to drive but is otherwise a piece of crap. The build quality is garbage, I had issues they couldn't fix despite multiple attempts, I had build quality issues (door panels randomly falling off), I had dumb luck issues (such as the rear tailgate stopped working and I couldn't get in to my bed because it had a tonneau cover on). I buy new vehicles every 18-24 months, so I've had a lot of vehicles, and I've never had a vehicle that was in the shop more than the Raptor and I only had it 18 months. The other issue (and this may sound petty) but when I'd take my Raptor in to the dealer, which was quite often, I expect a certain level of service when you've bought an $80K vehicle but with Ford you get treated the same as the guy that bought a $13K Ford Fiesta, which is not good. This is a Ford issue and not a Raptor issue, I tried several dealers and it was the same at all of them. If they treated everyone awesome, that would be great...but they don't. Every Toyota dealer I've taken my trucks to treat you like royalty, wether I bought my truck from them or not. I like and appreciate that.

Toyota's ability to hold their value also lend themselves very well to those that like to trade vehicles often. It will be a constant value battle with domestics if you trade often.

I've had this experience with Toyota dealers as well... Even when I brought in my 95 Pathfinder

A lot of interesting perspectives. The Tundra seems to be the front runner as far as my choices go but I just hate the fact that you are buying an obsolete product. Maybe leasing a new Tundra is the way to go and then I can see what all is going on 3 years from now....

I beg your pardon, but what is obsolete about the Tundra?

The fact that a totally re-designed product is already slated for release.

It has a big engine up front, all the towing capability in the back, and about a million cubic feet of seating space in the middle.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is called functionality.

Without robing the thread. This sounds good, but you didn’t say much about hybrid also helping with MPG.

Hmm. I'll bite. Isn't the RAM Rebel pretty darn expensive? More than the Tundra TRD Pro.

My brother just got a 2020 Rebel and so far he absolutely loves it. Adding Dex sucks, and the screenshot below will surely be fun for all parties involved. Look at the mileage, then the lights. Apparently, he's had some times where the dash says it's overheating, too... idk man. idk. :fingerscrossed::spending::crapstorm:

Yeah....because the increased MPG with the hybrid booster is more of a byproduct. What they're really shooting for is torque. It will be interesting to see if any MPG increases on paper are actually realized in real life

The hybrid Tundra is expected to get 30mpg and around 425+ hp
