The lighter truck that doesn't need 3.0+ shocks.

LT is wicked loud in the city I've heard. Not sure if you want a LT setup for a DD but that's just my .02. Cost can also be factored in, a LT setup is going to be 10k+ and expect shit to break... Oh, and lastly, I dislike the look of the tundra so my vote is for a taco!

Just one a couple years ago with one of my buddies who's got a LT YJ. I'm feeling like you don't think I know what I'm talking about so Im going to point out how I said I've only heard that LT taco's are loud in the city. Also, I suppose you could do a cheaper LT setup but considering he said he wants "a fun desert toy" I'd be doing it properly which isn't going to be cheap.

LT does take more maintenance than mid travel suspension. It also needs to be inspected by a trained eye regularly. In general, to long travel both front and rear, expect to spend no less than 10K. Even more than that if you cantilever the rear to save the box or have anything else custom fit. You can definitely do it for less, but it doesn't take long on here to see how guys easily hit 10K once everything is said and done. Even then you better have deep pockets and some time if you want to keep everything in top end shape.

I have several friends with long travel trucks. It almost seems like installing long travel starts a clock on the sale of the truck. Keeping long travel in tip top shape up here in the winter takes a bit more work than most would like to put in.

The OP never mentioned he was worried bout price. Putting 10k or 20k into a hobby/project isn't the same to everyone.

Is my LT truck loud? Yes
    Do I DD it? Yes
Do I keep maintenance up to date? Yes
Do I do it all myself? No, I don't always have time and the cost to pay someone is worth it to me.

It does cost money to maintain a LT truck, but there are people spending just as much on maintaining MT trucks. In my 3 years I've only broke steering racks. Everything else has been normal wear parts.

Soooooooo why do you sound so upset? Not everyone knows what they're getting into with a LT setup. I see threads on here every once in a while and the guy just doesn't fully understand what it takes to do properly. Not saying the OP doesn't already know but why not mention some key things like noise, price, and wear?

Just informing OP. I'm not here to comment on someones hobby. Hell I have a TRD S/C in my truck that cost me 6K. If he doesn't need our advice he doesn't have to listen to it .

Any suspension needs maintence. L/T is just another step up with a little more wear due to the additional movement and forces on the components. When someone asks about which truck to long travel, to me, that means they are just starting to research long travel and I'm only trying to help. If he buys a Tundra, that could be another 10K of truck he could put into the suspension on a Tacoma.

As for which truck OP should get, well someone already gave him the perfect answer. It's all about what size he wants to drive and what engine he wants in the truck. It's a lot easier to launch a Tacoma if that's what he wants to get into but that's a whole new ball game of upgrades.

I'm I upset? Not at all. He can look at the stickies if he wants that info. He asked a specific question and people are choosing to answer what they believe he wants to hear.

No no, go with the Ford Explorer sport trac.. Anything less and you're wasting money.

I say Tacoma for real though. I think they look wonderful when they hover on a good suspension.

Again, not saying the OP doesn't know how to search, but a lot (and I mean a lot) of guys on here either skip or don't seem to know how to use the search bar to find stickies.

I really don't understand why you care so much about us not only answering his question but also giving him extra advice. The guy's looking to spend over 10k on LT along with either a tacoma or a tundra. I'd be more than happy if someone said "I like the tacoma better myself, also here's a bit more about LT just so you know."

Tell the OP that awesome story about you and your friend in a Jeep years ago again. That should really help him decide.
