Yesterday as I was heading south on the Dalton I was looking for a place to camp. You can pretty much pull off and camp wherever. The first few places were buggy so I continued on. It was rainy most of the time I was up there, I saw this road and pulled down it. I came up to the water crossing and saw the bottom of the puddle so kept going slowly.

Turns out the bottom I saw was a reflection and this foker was deep. I was going slow but it got deep enough...came over the hood, and I new I needed to keep rolling forward instead of trying to stop and reverse out. Naturally this road happened to be about 100 feet long past this puddle so I had to turn around and do it again. There were no other options and at least I knew I made it through the one side of it.

After checking the intake to make sure it was dry (it was), I went through it again. After I made it through, I pried a good 1/2" or more of mud out of the inside of both rear wheels. It was still wet and I didn't want the nasty clay to dry. The rear of the truck was covered in a good 1/4" of mud. Made for a great time when I would need to open it.

    The video of the fun.

Just wanted to post up a shout out for those looking for Jerry cans.

I purchased one of these 5 gallon Wavian Jerry cans a while ago. After watching the video of how they test them... There was no other option (they throw them on a fire for quite a long time, drop them, abuse them).

At one point on a trip I was doing a bit of baja, flying around corners, hitting some bumps and only later did i realize that i forgot to tie the gas can down that was full of gas. It scraped some paint off from flying around the bed, but not even a scent of leaked gas.

On this trip, i filled it up over a month ago and put it lying on it's side. Never has it leaked or had any gas smell. I probably should, but never let it vent when changing altitude... It's changed a lot since it was filled. So if you're going to get a gas can, don't cheap out and spend half on a harbor freight can that is guaranteed to leak.

The nozzle is also great since it has a push on/off part that actually works to keep from spilling gas. And it's long enough where you can rotate the can upside down to get the last bit of gas out without hitting the truck (like harbor freight ones).

The initial time was crawling and not expecting it... This time I didn't want to crawl through it and let it get up into the engine bay like it did the first time.

It did wash it a little, but I have fears of the fan going into the radiator after hitting water.

Nah. At higher speeds the fan blades with hit the water like a brick wall and just snap clean off. I have actually seen this happen.

Good news is at highway speeds the engine will stay cool. Bad news is at crawling speeds the truck overheats quick. :(

Great views at the top of the glacier. (Exit glacier near Seward, AK. I've seen glaciers before, but seeing the ocean of ice at the top of a mountain is pretty sweet.

    0903171522a_HDR.jpg

I hiked all the way up in just a t-shirt... Wasn't bad until the last half a mile when it got really damn windy but I figured I came that far... Must continue to the end!

I am pretty sick of the rain and overcast weather though. Apparently normal for this time of the year but it sucks for sight seeing/pictures, hiking, camping, etc.

I was really looking forward to seeing the ice caves in Juneau, but spending ~$400ish for a couple days (expensive fucking ferry) isn't sounding appealing especially with this weather... That's half the cost of a ticket to Iceland where I can see a ton of ice caves.

So I'll probably be back into Canada sooner than later, where it's sunny and warm to try out my new climbing shoes I bought the other day.
