I bought a slightly used procharger kit here and after installing it I am stuck without a tune and looking for options and opinions.

Because it’s used, the procharger RTD is locked to the original vehicle and procharger has straight up said they won’t provide me with a tune. I talked extensively with the guys at OTT and essentially they can’t tune it because I don’t have the base tune from Procharger.

So I have a s/c truck with no tune and weighing options:
    1. I’ve looked at Ucon from gadget at URD.
    2. Full standalone like Haltech
    3. Have a local tuner tune it for me (assuming I can find someone)
    4. Find another company that does remote tuning (idk what else is out there)
    5. Pull the whole kit off and go back to n/a

LMK what any of you think and if you have other ideas.
I feel pretty disappointed and discouraged. I thought getting a tune flashed was going to be a much easier route than the type of tuning I’ve done in the past.

    Hi James,

We understand your frustration and want to take a moment to clarify the situation from our end, as it seems there may be some confusion around why we’re currently unable to proceed with tuning your setup.

At Overland Tailor Tuning, our calibration service is exactly that — a calibration service. We are not a troubleshooting or diagnostic service for hardware issues, installation errors, or component mismatches — and unfortunately, with used supercharger kits, those issues are extremely common.

Our policy of requiring the factory ProCharger calibration before beginning a custom tune is not due to a lack of capability. It's a protective measure for both parties. The base calibration from ProCharger is designed to help identify and resolve mechanical or installation problems early on. If issues are present — and they often are with used kits — they can manifest as tuning problems, which ends up dragging both the customer and us through weeks (or months) of unnecessary back-and-forth, trying to tune around hardware faults.

We’ve been down that road too many times: spending time on 90+ revisions while the customer slowly chases down mechanical issues, only to realize later that something in the kit was installed incorrectly, defective, or mismatched. That’s time wasted for you and for us.

We are not turning you away because you don’t have the ProCharger tune — we’re simply asking you to start there, as a diagnostic baseline, to ensure the kit is installed and functioning properly before we begin our part of the process. If everything checks out mechanically and electrically, we’d be more than happy to help with a custom calibration from there.

We hope that clears things up and wish you the best with whichever route you choose.

I might be missing some detail here but you can buy an hptuner, and pull the stock file from your truck with that to send to OTT?

No, I think that process is a farce and "pulling" the tune for our 1GR ECU's just results in the same base tune everyone using the HP Tuner software gets. I can't find the quote with a quick search, so I'm going by memory.

Also, what Justin is saying is that they will gladly calibrate the procharger tune specific to OPs truck, but to build a tune from scratch (the base OEM non TRD/supercharged tune on the ECU) is out of the question.

Thanks for adding that clarifying explanation on here from your side, Justin. I didn’t want to say too much and make it sound like you guys were dismissing me. You and John have both spent a lot of time trying to help me figure out my situation; much more than I expected. And I am extremely appreciative of that. I mainly added in that I had worked with you because I hypothesized that many people would suggest your tuning services because you have a great reputation. I hope to get something figured out whatever that may be. Ultimately what really sucks is procharger’s unwillingness to get me their tune to get my truck up and running.

I imagine I won’t be able to send OTT my stock tune, but I’ll talk to Procharger again to see of I can potentially do this to get them to send me their s/c tune.

They said that the RTD I have from the kit is vin locked to the original owners truck.

You can still use the RTD to read your vehicle (Virtual Read), that will provide a stock file for your Cal ID. We'll use that file to eventually build your calibration.

That RTD can be relicensed to your truck with 4 additional credits (we can sell you those at a bit of a discount vs buying direct from HPT)

That’s definitely helpful to know. That’s much cheaper too than buying a new unit. Just going off the Procharger install instructions, if we can just get the stock tune file read off the truck, I can email that to them with the serial number off of the blower and they’re supposed to then just email me an s/c tune file back. Is that read something John B could potentially do for me locally?

The file has your tune ID, vin, and whatever other data they need to re-write the file to your trucks ecm. Yea the parameters are going to be the same as another truck with a stock tune but the ECM identifying details are specific.

Did not see that post before I posted but I mostly understand their reasoning for this position.

Procharger ain't going to send you nothing. (I've tried to get it from them before)

Have you tried to simply do a read with the RTD and VCMEditor?

RTD wont work with VCM Editor. You have to use RTDFlasher (which is similar to VCM Editor).
