Because V6 is lame and turbo 4cyl is cool. Why spend all the time and effort swapping in a lame V6 when you can turbo your 4cyl?

Turbo an 05+... Sounds like fun! But if you have the cash i would go with a 22R and turbo that. Here you should read this book to put you in the right direction. It has a 440HP 22R in it. With the right knowledge you could get 300+ easy out of the 2.7 but you would need to make a lot of changes.

22R?? I'm not saying it's a bad motor, but if your going to go big with a 4cyl you can't beat the 2/3RZ's. I've seen 500+ hp on stock cranks..

I say go for it. I've built plenty of turbo cars. It's not all that hard to do, just takes a little bit of time and work. If you shop around and piece together a set up, you can do it for fairly cheap. The two challenges and expensive pieces would be the turbo manifold and EMS. I haven't dealt much with tuning Tacoma motors so I can't help ya. But if you have any fabrication and welding skills or know someone that does, you can eliminate the turbo manifold issue.

Otherwise you'll just need all the pieces, mock it up and start fabricating the downpipe, charge pipes, and dumptube. Run your oil lines, vacuum plumbing, change your injectors to bigger ones. Install a new fuel pump. Install the EMS system and find a place to tune it, and you're good to go.

Depending on the condition of your clutch, you may need to invest in a new one.

thanks! lol yah i wish there were more :( there aren't any real parts out for this motor, and it seems like it would be a very solid motor to turbo. oh well..

I'd like to revisit this thread. I'd rather run boost than toss in a V6, not a whole lot of boost, just enough to stay on pump gas and not rebuild the engire engine - like... 6-8 PSI, intercooled.

I'm running 5lbs non-intercooled and I'd line it up with a V6 any day. You could probably get away with a couple more lbs intercooled.
