Both will be very expensive, with the battery being far, far more. This is one of the huge draw backs to ev's

I've had Toyota hybrids since 2014. Hybrid system is under warranty for 8-10 years and is very reliable, 99% of taxi's in my area are Toyota hybrids. Lot of these taxi's have over 600,000 kms + no issues.

Also, Turbos have been around for decades. They only have reliability issues when people start tuning.

My Kia battery pack is about $2500. But yes you can put 300k on the batteries if you drive a lot. Lol But batteries supposed to last 10 years.

Depends on the vehicle and the battery size.

No they are NOT more than the value of the vehicle.

Known fact turbos have a lifespan, usually around 150K.
Ford stated their ecoboosts are 150K approximately.
Battery needs replacement and lose 2.3% efficiency each year.
Gas mileage difference will not make up for this.
Expect some high maintenance costs on this new model. it's completely different than the old 300K tacos.

A google search of kia replacement show much higher than that.
The average cost for a Kia Soul EV Hybrid High Voltage Battery Replacement is between $13,264 and $13,333.

And the starting MSRP is about $20k so you can have a whole new vehicle for $7k more give or take.

Prius battery replacement is $4 and under. KIA seems to use a different chemistry battery than the Prius

I feel like the Prius could run on a 9 volt. Is it the best comparison?

I already posted this in another thread here before I saw this one. Excuse the duplicate post.

In one of the videos I watched a Toyota representative said the worries about the turbo are unwarranted. He said the Tacoma engine and turbo combination were built to a commercial duty spec not a consumer spec like most vehicles.

The Prius battery is 1.3 Kwh and the Tacoma will be 1.8 Kwh

They are also variable spin turbos producing less heat and spin rpm than a traditional turbo.

I know zip about the Kia’s or their batteries. I know in the Tacoma it’ll be a nickel metal hydride not a litium ion battery. It also doesn’t seem to be very large. How does the size and composition compare?

Bunch of troglodytes trying to stir up controversy around here. I've had many turbo engines over 30 years. Never had an issue with a turbo, including vehicles with well over 200k miles. Yes, they are more sensitive to proper maintenance. If you want something that will go forever without oil changes then go buy a Chevy with an LS.
I'm looking forward to better MPG, more power, usable torque and fewer emissions in my next Tacoma. Toyota knows what they're doing.

It doesn't. Two different architectures and different chemistry batteries.

They have no data, and probably EV haters but I chalk it all up to jealousy.

Rust is what got my 2003 Tacoma, but I was still running great when I traded it in with 289 K on it and got 4 grand. With the original clutch which worked perfectly. Toyota replaced the frame on it some years before. NO OTHER company would have done that........Had to get the fuel pump replaced at 259K, and just before I was bringing it in to the dealer, a rear axle bearing went on it. At about 240K, my mechanic had to "fabricate" some new gas tank straps that rusted. SO, when I got my 18, I drove straight to my mechanic who does the NH Oil treatment on the under carriage. Done the treatment every year since.
