Long time lurker - finally joined...

So it all started in 2019 - my dog brought home a Taco from Craigslist.

Alright - so not totally true, but that's how the story is told. I'd been looking for a truck for a bit and found a reasonable priced Taco not far from here with a salvage title. Nothing hubs unit and I couldn't handle. The dog (now dogs) is part of a lot of my adventures, so buying this truck was part her too.

I've been through a lot with this truck, lots of fixes from being a craigslist buy, to hitting a deer, to supercharging , to towing jet skis, camping, and so much.

I've just started my turbo build am and working on an RTT setup - so there is plenty more adventure to come.

    Latest teaser:

^ The outside looks a lot different these days too, for better or worse. :)

If I spend the time playing "history" we'll never get to today -- so let's start with today. lol. So weekend update...

So the "before" -- supercharged, 2.1" pulley, ebay long tubes, crappy ebay intake (yah, all self inflicted):

Me feeling good about cleaning out:

    New manifolds are pretty giddy:

Getting shmexy -- totally stealth - ROFL :D

Yeah deffo the CX kit, @turboTacoMonkey how did the crossover fit up for you. I know others had issues with getting it to mate up and CX redesigned it recently.

    yap.

I had read that was the hardest part - but I think the redesign must have been a huge help. Getting the pieces in wasn't difficult -- getting the vbands on was a little harder, the flex only wants to flex so much out of the box. ;) But no real complications. Certainly easier than making my own..

I'm actually pretty impressed with the kit so far. When I did my miata I just pieced it together myself - don't get me wrong, I love the way it came out but certainly took more effort and certain parts are quite a bit uglier. hehe.

Got a couple things done yesterday - not much else this week with so many things going on. I suspect it'll be running this weekend no problem!!

Sanks! I'll be adding more pictures of the current stuff and some other things I've done externally. It looks like quite a bit of a different truck, for better or worse.

alright - holy sh*t bawls -- that crossover still sux...

Had to break out the husband-wrench and more today to get things lined up. I thought it was close enough on the one side but nope -- hecka leak. There is still a small tick -- hoping to heat it up a bit and see if I can get a little more outta the flex. Jeebus.

Got it warm and let it run in the driveway a bit -- few little things to "fix" but it works and runs.

Started a little on the exhaust -- should be wrapped up with a first real drive tomorrow.

Does the CX downpipe come with the o2 bung welded in the engine bay like your pictures show now? It didn't used to 7 years ago and I thought I was the innovator of moving that o2 to that location. Also is that a heimholz drone reducer thingy?

it certainly appears to be, though I can say that's the first time I've seen it on a Tacoma, and I'm not sure what the target frequency would be

The turbo killed the really annoying trombone noise mine used to make so I'm not sure either.

Yup. O2 bung is there from CX now. The downpipe is a great fit after moving the coiled break line over. I suspect that might be a "2000" thing -- there seems to be a lot of oddity with a 2000 that doesn't exist in other years. :)

    helmholtz/j-pipe/whatever -- yes it is.

    sanks.

ha. It's actually lime green and hot pink most of the way around -- just what I had around from other builds.

Didn't calculate it. just wanted to try it out and adjust if I needed -- I can make enough of an ugly weld to change it. :)

Turbos make good mufflers but they don't always fix drone. I suffered much with my SC.

Ahh another 5VZ turbo. What type of engine management setup are you using?
