This has already been said in earlier posts, but Turbo chargers aren't able to produce boost like superchargers in the lower RPM range. If you're offroading, that is generally where there is the greatest need for increased power. If you have to rev your engine to 2500-3000 before you see any significant boost than you've gained no advantage for offroading unless of course you plan to just blast through everything as fast as you can.

But with a lot of serious off road rigs with nice transfer cases, you are talking effective gear ratios in the 130:1 to 100:1 range. In those ranges your spinning the engine well past 3000 rpm and your supercharger can't keep up with your demands. All I'm saying is, it's not as simple as on-road, off-road, racing, etc. The decision should be heavily weighted on your goals and intended uses.

At the point where you have that low of a creeper gear, the power added by a supercharger/ turbocharger is irrelevant.

well with a turbo your gonna have to run premium and witha S/C your gonna have to run premium. and it all depends on your driving style. since the turbo goes off of exhaust from the headers, its gonna depend on how high your rpms are gonna be for that thing to kick in. but if like you said your gonna be doing trails, and hauling i would get a S/C jsut for the shear fact that you have less delay witha S/C than a turbo. turbo is for mainly applications where high rpms are going to benefit you. S/C is for aplications that you need power all throughout the rpms.

yeah, its only because you can cover the TRD one under warranty. after market ones you cant like the TRD one. IMO id go with something elese other than the TRD. Rotrex makes a good one

For the street a s/c win hands down, way more practical, more linier power curve, bigger power band. Turbos have a too aggressive torque curve, run some decent boost and its wheelspin city everytime you give stick, yes you can make more good power with a turbo, but good power in my eyes is power you can use.

Seeing the TRD s/c is a Twin screw type s/c, where the say URD s/c is a centrifugal s/c (like a turbo), the TRD kit in my eyes is a much more practical choice for the street as it comes onto full boost much quicker, 1500-2500rpm, where the centrifugal type doesnt reach full boost till readline, much more torque down low with the TRD, which is where you are most of the time driving.

    A) So there is currently not a turn key turbo kit for our trucks, right?
    B) But a turbo kit would be cheaper than a S/C kit?
    C) And the TRD kit is the cheapest S/C kit out there, right?
    D) But someone is working on a turbo kit to be offered?

A - STS makes a remote-mount turbo kit, i wouldn't call it turn key, but it is a bolt on with everything you need (and you'll be lucky if you don't need to spend more time and money to get it working right)
B - Turbo would cost more then a S/C kit if done right
C - TRD S/C is the most affordable (and currently the fastest s/c in the 1/4 mile - both ET and MPH)
D - Two shops are potentially working on a bolt-on front mount kits

Consider the tuning options you have then go from there. This is the factor that will make or break your build. If you have cash to blow, go stand alone.
