Turbo is more efficient. Uses waste exhaust to produce power. Supercharger uses engine momentum to produce power. Also, nothing in the world beats when a turbo kicks in!

A properly sized turbo will do the same.

dunno I will say I have rode in single turbo gas and diesels, twin turbo gas and diesels and supercharged gas and diesel... in a car sure turbo all the way unless its some old hot rod that weighs 2 tons

truck? supercharger all the way just seem to be better matched for trucks powerband (i do of course realize that some of you guys have 2wd 5luggers lowered to car height/weight etc so I'll lump you in with the car crowd you just have a large open trunk lol)

Ford is doing amazing things with their twin turbo set up that no SC truck could dream of doing.

That is funny, and I realize this is a Tacoma site, but I am a realist and not above giving other brands credit where credit is due.

If tuned well it can last for a little while, but you will be on borrowed time. If the internals are forged, then there is no reason why it can't have an indefinite life span with proper tuning. Do these trucks have forged or cast internals? I believe that MkIV Supras had cast pistons and can hold well over 800 rwhp on the stock shortblock

i believe its cast but i could be wrong. if you want to keep it for a long time the rule of thumb is usually not over 9 psi on a stock engine

wow i didnt know that....its not aluminum is it? I have always been told that its just a good rule of thumb to not go over 9psi stock just to be safe

I have watched the same kind of motor pop with 6psi and live at 16psi, its all in the tune and your motor's ability to hold power.

coming from someone who built a 430hp430tq sti, it's an apples to oranges comparison. reliability is going to depend on 2 major things:
    1. the availability of a quality product. if nobody makes a good turbocharger, get a supercharger and vv.
    2. the tune. most motors blow up up premateurely because they have too much air and not enough/the wrong kind of fuel. if your tuner gets you 100 hp gains but only spent 15 minutes tuning, its not going to be reliable.
also keep in mind that increased heat+increased power load on the drivetrain=extra wear and tear. the real question is, will the motor outlast how long you want to have the truck.

personally, i want to shove a v8 in my tacoma one of these days.

for the love the feeling of turbo lag argument, you guys are crazy. thats like saying you shoved a tennis ball in your intake so you could enjoy the feeling when it comes out. my sti barely lags and i still am jealous of my friend with a supercharger AND a turbo on his sti that hits 500 to the wheels at 2200 rpm and stays there.
