@Teke, that's really valuable feedback, man- I truly appreciate it. And I couldn't agree with you more on being closer, hence the hesitation with pulling the trigger (on either one).

I'll give further thought and see where the brainstorming takes me. It would've been son much easier if there were a significant difference in cost, but the Avid is about $520, and the cost for turbodb's with shipping is right at that. :(

Hey man, I've been trying to stay out of the conversation given my obvious bias...but do let me know if you've got any questions I can answer for you - I'm happy to do that; would love to get a rack sent your way.

Much appreciated, boss, and totally understandable. You’ve obviously good some solid reviews and that speaks volumes in my book, so will definitely circle back with questions as I get closer to the purchase. Off the cuff (and forgive me if I overlooked this in the posting somewhere), do you do any kind of customizing? Nothing major, thinking along the lines of a couple inches lower height.

I can definitely make one a bit lower, if that's what you want.

Yes sir! Thank you @turbodb. You're the man.

On second thought, I should probably get my name changed. When I made this account I didn't realize how great of a community this was.. I'm used to regular - average forums, trolls and fighting words. lol.

There is no "lower" rack per-se. @GallMcOxsbig69's is the normal rack I make and sits about 8” above the bed sides and 23" above the bottom of the bed, at a height that results in a RTT being flush (or just slightly below) the highest point of the roof line (center of cab), except for the ladder which sticks just slightly above.

If you're interested in a lower rack though, I can do that as well. Price is the same - $400 + shipping for a bare rack. (as of this post; steel prices are getting insane so it may be more in the future)

Why are steel prices going up? Result of tariffs on foreign goods?

Yep, up about 30% it a bit more as a result of the tariffs. Bleh.

I’ve got a hard shell tent so I need a rack tall enough to clear my tire swing. Have you made these taller?

I haven't, but it shouldn't be too hard. How high do you want it?

I should note - making it taller will also make it larger, which could affect shipping and steel pricing. Happy to give a quote though once I've got more info from you.

I was thinking 17.5”-18” above rails and a foot longer. Just a hair under the allpro short rack. That way if I start using my cvt tent again I can hook up the annex.

Not a bad price, I asked the wife and she told me to get off my ass and weld my own. Here’s what I figured so far. Just gotta find the metal.911EF555-8AAE-4957-B858-D7678A5EFBC9.jpg

Hey turbodb did you ever make that taller rack? I’m also looking for something similar and would love to work with you.

PM sent (as you know :))
I never built a taller one, because I never heard back. I'd be happy to do that though - should be very straightforward for a first gen. PM me with the details on what you're looking for and I can get you a quote.
