Not that I know of. The rack would sort of preclude that, no? (Perhaps I don't follow what you're referring to...)

If the rack set high enough (haven't looked into how high) you could use a tool box with the platform.

My train of thought is that I have a toolbox and it holds recovery gear and some other side of the road/side of the trail type stuff. It would be nice if I could figure out the right clearance that the tent platform hangs over the box without making it so I can't open the box to get that gear. Plus at 50ish pounds,I plan on removing the tent and rack when not heading out camping.

The rack platform is about 8" off the top of the bed rails, but doesn't a side-opening toolbox sit on the bed rails? (which is where the rack also sits). Or again, maybe since I've never had/really looked at tool boxes, I don't know what I'm even talking about :) :notsure:

I think you could probably put a toolbox at the front of a 6-foot bed if you wanted the rack at the back of the bed, but I still don't think it'd be the most convenient thing.

My bed rack from @turbodb arrived via Greyhound and I picked it up yesterday. Here is the first test fit from this morning. Looks good, and feels solid. Needs to be cleaned up and painted. Was considering powder coating, but if I want to make mods, then painting allows me more options. Looks great. Thanks Dan.

Oh yea, and my new KM3s (from TireBuyer) were dropped shipped to my local tire shop today and get installed tomorrow morning. After over 50K mike, still plenty of tread on 2 of my old KM2s and will go to my M416 when I convert it to 6 lug, and one of the worn KM2s still has enough to be a full size spare for the Taco.

There's something wrong with us at TW if we're on a beautiful hike through the redwoods (Big Basin and Henry Cowell@Garden of Eden) yet you're anxious to get back and pick up your next Tacoma mod!

    Bed rack picked up ;)

Have you made or thought about making the rails extend the entire length of the bed? I saw you have a wrap around option that covers the front but was wondering if you ever considered having the rails go all the way to the back end of the bed too. Might not be worth the hassle to get the corners right since everybody's bed might be a little different? Maybe I'm crazy lol. Either way, one of these is definitely in my near future.

Making the rails the entire length of the bed, is totally doable. The only issue with it, is that it would add to the shipping cost because the longest dimention will be much longer.

Happy to do it though, just contact me by PM and we can work out the details.

@turbodb I’m so so tempted to pull the trigger on this. I have a few questions.

Do you have any pictures of where the rack sits with the wrap around feet?

I saw mentioned earlier that Rotopax would in theory fit on the side without a rtt mounted, do you think raising the platform 1” would allow for mounting with a rtt? (Not sure if this is in your wheelhouse, but figured I’d ask).

I’m probably going to get the iKamper X-Cover Mini when it comes out next year, it may be a non issue, but I know the regular sized x-cover is pretty low profile (I think 10.5 inches), so I figure I’d have at least an inch of room to the roofline, maybe as much as 2-3 to play with.

I’ll try and find some diagrams and figure this out on my end as well.

    Keep up the great work!

P.s. @MD11Fr8Dog what rear bumper are you sporting? I like it

@StevenP - Thanks for the interest. You should totally pull the trigger ;).

Here's a photo of the wrap-around feet I have on my truck. Note that this is a long bed, and the center leg of the rack sits approximately at the rear axle. We can likely make the rack sit wherever you'd like though - probably a little further forward (i.e. over your axle), since you have a 5' bed.

    00001 - 2019-10-12 - photo.jpg

Depends on the size rotopax. We likely can work out getting them to fit. However, I'd advise against it - here's why... putting all that weight (fuel, water, etc.) up that high isn't ideal. You'll be placing extra strain on your bed sides and you'll be raising your center of gravity. Also, Rotopax just don't hold enough fluid for the "bulkiness" of the containers. One "5 gallon" scepter jerry can holds as much as three, "2 gallon" rotopax - which is to say both solutions hold about 5.75 gallons. And the three Rotopax take up significantly more room. I've moved away from Rotopax fully, and to military issue plastic jerry cans for both fuel and water.

Now, those are my opinions obviously, and I'm offering them up only from my own experience. If you want the taller rack for Rotopax, I'm happy to do that for you.

At any rate, click here to shoot me a PM and we can work out the details. (and I can get your shipping info to give you a shipping estimate)

@turbodb I was also curious about the limited capacity on the Rotopax. Your opinion makes a lot of sense to me. I’ll shoot you a pm soon and we can start working on an order :)

@turbodb how many pieces does the DIY kit come in? Trying to decide on the DIY kit or the pre-assembled kit.

    Thanks!
