I am trying to help out a fellow turkey hunter and I need some advice. What shotgun, choke tube, and shells (length and pellet size) does everyone shoot? I shoot Rem 870 supermag with Primos Tightwad choke with 3 1/2" Winchester Supreme #5's

i use a 3" mag with #4 shot. not as much kick as the 3 1/2 but still plenty of damage. plus they are a bit cheaper. just a simple full choke works fine

and cant go wrong with the 870. possibly the most common shotgun out there and plenty of options as far as barrels and choke tubes go if he wants to do more hunting with it than just turkeys

Try 3 in #5. They pattern way better than the 3.5. I shoot the same gun with a patter master an a promos jelly head. Buy a box of the 3 in an see how much better they shoot

be very still, and where lots of camo. In all seriousness, I like to put the turkeys to bed the night before. Find out where they are roosting, then before sun up get positioned relatively close to them. Also if you are sitting on the ground, get a butt pad. Turkey hunting is a lot of fun, one of my favs.

    I've lost count....
    - Mossberg 535 12 gauge
    - Briley Tungsten Alloy Turkey Choke
    - 3.5" Hevi-Shot #5

To be honest though, I've killed turkey's with a full choke 16 gauge shotgun and a .22 long rifle. It's all about: knowing how your weapon shoots, knowing the effective killing range for your weapon of choice, and calling the turkey into that effective range.

I've seen 12 gauges that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 30 yards and 20 gauges that can smoke a bird at 40 yards. Get your gun out and pattern it on some turkey targets to find the right choke and shot combination that works best with your gun. No two shotguns ever shoot exactly the same...even if they both have the same choke and ammo.

Pretty much any combination of full to xtra full tube spittin any turkey load 2 3/4" - 3 1/2". Everybody's advice seems pretty good. Know how yours shoots and you should be fine. You can keep it as basic as you want or make it as complicated as you want.

Just remember though, like with fishing, most stuff in the stores is meant to lure hunters and not the turkeys...:)

for that person wanting advice, the best thing you can do is be stiller than a rock. dont wiggle your hands/feet, dont move your legs, hell, dont even blink. put your gun up on your knee before you see them. dont aim for the head. aim halfway down the neck
