Turkey hunting and BS welcome!

I have not hunted with a decoy for several years. Most of my hunt days are between 12 to 15 miles of hiking and don't like to carry a decoy any longer. That being said that is a really good looking decoy.

 

Thanks fellas. Have hunted turkeys a long time. Killed a few over decoys but surely don't need one. They are a boat anchor for a guy who likes to walk.

Lots of birds around

 

Them boys were fired up and fighting for pecking order today. I couldn'tget a picture of the 2 old boys both with inch and a quarter maybe a little bigger spurs. There was also a bearded hen in the group. We have thousands of backyard turkeys in the city limits here and they have no idea how to deal with them.

All it takes is one wounded bird flopping around on a arterial road. This is in the middle of a city 250k plus people. I have seen birds roosted on 6 for vinyl fences. No predators at all. I see tons of hens with double clutches. Hens with small turkeys and then quail size babies in August. The game dept solution was to find their nests and put vinegar on the eggs. In 3 years they located 2 nests. I'm all for safe urban hunting but these birds are in places that it isn't feasible.

 

Catch them at night...fish and game are worthless unless you are spotlighting game...then they will do something

There is 40 + inches of snow over most of the area I hunt so the birds are all down in the backyards and pastures eating all the free feed they can. But the city birds are out in full force

 

Those birds roost on that fence almost every night I have seen as many as 17 on it.

They flipping you the wing...i saw a big flock maybe 5 miles as crow flies, in a field

 

I got one this past spring

 

3 mile walk in the woods and came upon a flock of over 100 birds . Couldn’t walk anywhere without stepping in turkey shit . The woods are tore up !pics not great but I stood there and watched them for about 20 minutes. Bunch of males fighting and chasing each other in circles also ,was comical.

Would these be the same birds that were in the field across the road from you.

 

Most likely. It was the same piece of woods behind the fields . I walked 3 miles over there today . On my way out found this not 100 yards from the road across from a neighbors house
There also a dead doe in the field itself all of a sudden been watching a bald eagle feed on it .

 

Looks like a broke shoulder.
