Traveling home after our 4 day hunt in southern BC. Birds were NOT coming in to our calls. They would hang up about 80 yards out and that was it. Took advantage of it after we heard a bird gobble. Dad moved ahead and set up while I stayed and called. Called him into about 80 yards from me. 15 from dad and he nailed him. I missed a bird this morning, but it's all good. Dono how it happened but who cares. Give me a week or so and I will have a half decent GoPro edit of the adventure. Got about 25Gb of footage, 300ish photos...

Nice birds guys! Good luck to those yet to go out!

yeah man. Since the kids are hunting now it seems me harvesting a bird just don't seem so important anymore. I really want everything to cooperate and get them on birds again.

Daughter got her first last year and I really want my son to get his. He missed a longbeard last year and we jumped up and just hooted and yelled in excitement how fun the hunt was. I don't want them getting down or discouraged cause missing can happen.

I try not to give them any impression that the harvesting is important, but I can come on here, where they don't look and express my excitement and anxiety that I want them to take a bird really bad.:D I really really want them to take a bird.;) We'll have fun either way it goes.:)

Here's her last year bird, hope to put her twin brother pic next to this soon.

That's awesome! there is no better memory then when I killed my first bird and the first thing my dad did is grab me and pulled me off the ground yelping and hollering.

That's pretty cool that you and your son started celebrating after a heart breaking miss, I think that shows alot about your character and his. I hope the luck is with your son and he smokes a great first bird!

P.s your daughters bird is beautiful, and you guys look very excited

Well, Indiana season opened today and I harvested a nice 2 year old around 2 this afternoon. He strutted all the way in and I enjoyed the show for around 45 minutes. Sure wish there had been a little shooter with me.

Now I really look forward to not packing a gun and putting the youngens on a bird this weekend.

Hell of a nice bird ben! Sometimes its almost more exciting to watch them strut right in front of you then actually harvesting the bird!

Congrats! Now its time for the youngins to get after them!

[IMG] I got this bird wed. after to listening him gobble for about 3 hrs. tues. I watched him for about 45min-1hr on tues but he just wouldn't come in and eventually left. We decided to go back wed. morning and get him when he came off the roost. We go back to the place and waited and listened and no gobble, so we leave. Hunted for about 3 1/2 hrs and nothing. I go back across the hollow from where this bird was and called but the wind was blowing horrible, so the wind died down for a second and I made another call and heard him gobble far off. I jumped in the Tacoma drove around the ridge to where I was the day before and made a call nothing another call nothing, made a gobble and right below the road (10-15 yds away) I heard a turkey putting. At first I thought it was a hen but then remembered the gobbler from the day before was doing the same thing. My hunting partner jumped out of the truck and we got our vests on, loaded our guns quick and started down the road in a hurry. We went about 50yds and eased over the bank (this is a somewhat thick area with lots of small trees). My friend was behind me with a box call barley purring and I reached in my vest to get the gobble shaker when I say him coming. I positioned my 870 and he came right into a small opening about 30yds away and it was over. I was totally pumped. I have killed 2 other birds but the way this hunt went down was amazing. God just worked it all out perfectly. This bird had an 11" beard, 1" spurs, and weighed just over 20lbs. And I totally forgot about denting in my skid plate and almost ripping it off getting to this bird the day before. There is nothing like spring gobbler season.

Good looking birds guys. The turkeys/weather have not been cooperating with me so far this year. its has been untypically cold and they have not been gobbling. when its warm enough its too windy to hear myself think. and if its actually warm and not windy its raining or i have class... might just give up on em this year and stick to fishing. i seem to be better at that anyways

I know it would be worth it but every time i go out and dont hear anything it gets harder and harder for me to justify paying for gas and time to drive 35 minutes each way every morning, especially with gas nearing $4 a gallon and me only working for $7.50 an hour 20 hours a week

I ended up doing a spot and stalk on this guy after he wouldnt come in to the call. Banged him with a turkey choke #4 load into the mid neck at 10 yards on the run. The Beard was approx, 7 inches, spur length approx. 1 inch.
