I think selling a 2X4 that was converted into a 4X4 would be a tough sale.

Possibly keep the Truck and upgrade the tires.

With a lot more parts being controlled electronically in the 3rd gen, you’d be better off trading your current truck for a 4wd one.

Don’t believe a 4wd conversion has been done on a 3rd gen yet.

All the parts and ESPECIALLY the labor are gonna be 4 times that minimum to retrofit.

Or just use an FJ t-case. Hard wire the diff to a rocker switch. Screw dealing with the dash lights since they aren’t needed. Hubs change but the sensors are the same. Doesn’t need to be complicated.

Keep the truck and buy another. Daily one and kit out the other.

Don't know why no one else has said this, its the obvious answer.

Had a 17' 4x2 and felt the same way. Traded for a 19' cement 4x4 with M/T. I love it more than I love my wife.

    Work in progress...
I bought a 2wd Jeep Cherokee back in 1998, and I lived out in the middle of the friggin desert. I loved that Jeep and thought about the same thing. I had boys that needed milk money and etc. Anyways I rode it out and paid the Cherokee off. I suggest Ya take that money you are ready to spend on this transformation and pay down the 2wd so you can trade it in on what you want.

Don't forget that if anything goes wrong on the drivetrain there's a higher chance it's because of aftermarket 4x4 and therefore won't be under warranty.

The fact that you bought a 2wd and not a 4x probably means you don’t have the know how or ability to covert it yourself which means you hopefully did well in school and can afford to pay a shop to do the Labor and parts finding for you.

Trade it in on a 4x or add a rear locker.

All this time I'd see a damn TRD Off Road and think they had a better truck than my plain old V6 4x4 SR5, and their not even 4 wheel drive!

How can they put a Off Road sticker on a truck that aint even 4 wheel drive?

I noticed they didn't have 4x4 on the tail gate, but thought that was because of the Off Road down the side.

Now I be a wondering how many people by those stickers and put them on tryin ta be cool.

WTF? SMDH... Now I gotta add 4x4 to my truck description on here.

Mine doesn't have the 4x4 logo on the back, just on the side stickers. Didn't know they made 4x2 ORs because that sounds Fn stupid.

    What hasn't been modified?
Depending on how it’s done, and the computer nannies, you shouldent need a new ecu. Speaking from when I converted my 2nt gen, I still have the prerunner ecu and the truck dosent know the 4wd exists even though I swapped trannies. I’m running the factory add, and an electronic shift transfer case with center locker

Yeah, they make a 4x2 and 4x4 version of the TRD Off Road.

EDIT: On the 3rd Gen the 4x2 just says "TRD Off Road" on the bedside sticker and the 4x4 says "TRD 4X4 Off Road".
