I always loved when people would talk smack about my locked 2WD. Then when I walk through a trail that they had trouble with because I picked the right lines for my truck and then sat and waited for them to close this mouths. 4WD ain't everything. I will say I had to relearn how to off-road once I got a 4WD because I had to relearn how to pick lines based on 4 wheels spinning instead of 2. But it doesn't make me or anyone better than someone else for having a 4WD. There's literally nothing wrong with having a 2WD, I've had both. People buy what they but for what they need, or what they don't. I'd never offroaded or owned a truck in my life and didn't know what I was missing with a 4WD.

Tires are the first mod I recommend to everyone. When I bought my 4x4 I threw some aggressive tires on it and had a blast hitting everything built trucks were hitting. Had a little trouble on a couple spots due to low clearance, but definitely made the truck much more competent.

I was in the same situation and took a 1.5k hit trading in my ‘18 SR5 V6 2wd for a ‘18 TRDOR 4x4. Only regret is not being able to source another inferno, but other than that I am very pleased with 4x4/locker/mt conversion for 1.5k.

That said, I think 2wd TRDORs are pretty cool. At least they can lock the rear anytime. Very capable trucks as well. If you think about it, a locked 2wd and an open diff 4wd can have the same amount of wheels with power to the ground in poor traction conditions.

Yea I mean it wouldn’t be as strong with 2x4s screwed together, I’d rather just buy a 4x4 to begin with. I think the price difference is only a couple bucks if we’re going by an 8ft piece, so it doesn’t really make sense to convert the 2x4.

    Okay. You win.

But, what about ripping a 2x8 in half?

I think voiding the warranty is the #1 reason not to convert it. #2-10 are not far behind though.

So, I hate to correct on this note, BUT, You can't void a warranty. However, any part you replace that wasn't originally on the truck obviously won't be covered under warranty, AND any part that was originally on there that fails, if its due to a part you installed, and the dealer can prove it, you're SOL. From a 4WD conversion perspective, pretty much anything on your powertrain will be suspect to a dealer so your warranty is still valid, but they can just say "well it wasn't intended for 4WD so it failed because of added stress" and you get to pay money because your engine blew up or something. Know what I mean?

If you correct someone you should do your research before you do. You can void your warranty on your Toyota. If you participate in motor sports events or the vehicle has a salvage title.
