Which isn't applicable in this situation. I was correcting the note about doing a 4WD conversion voiding warranty. Which it doesn't.

Fuck it, I'm out. This is just a dick measuring contest now.

Well you did specifically say “you cannot good a warranty”. I know what you meant but it was a poor choice of words.

The whole warranty argument is stupid and splitting hairs...if you convert a brand new 4x2 truck to 4x4, no dealership is going to honor your original warranty unless it has nothing to do with the powertrain/drivetrain. Nearly anything that comes up drivetrain related they can point to the conversion and say it's to blame.

In other news, it looks as though we done got trolled by the OP

I have to assume that everyone reading this understood that we were talking about the warranty on any parts that were modified or replaced, or as you said overloaded, being voided by a modification. This is called a partially voided warranty. Your objection to the terminology was literally semantics, and didn’t alter the original argument.

The entire vehicle’s warranty certainly can be voided as someone previously posted. In addition to the aforementioned abuse, or salvage title, add flooding or other environmental damage, and altering an odometer. I believe racing also qualifies if that wasn’t mentioned. I’m sure there are other ways to void the entire warranty as well.

I'm surprised that there isn't a posting on forums clause. Hahaha!

Man, just trying to help a guy out with some decent advice and I get a lesson on diction. Jeez. In the future I’m having a Toyota engineer and an English professor QA my posts.

    Whoa! What?

I was making a joke about warranty exclusions! I didn't see anything wrong with your post?

In the back of my mind, I was thinking about the infamous time when Mitsubishi was scrubbing autoX forums looking for EVO owners that were still under warranty.

How do this make sense? Are you saying that everyone that buys a 4x4 also knows how to do a conversion?

What do the engineers have to do with this? Sounds like a marketing thing. Engineers get picked on enough. Don’t throw them under the bus for this.

No, my run on sentence was saying if you weren't smart enough to know you needed or wanted a 4x4, you most likely don't have the ability to convert it.

Oh gotcha. Still, that’s basically the same thing. Anecdotal as it may be, I wasn’t smart enough to buy a 4x4 but I easily capable of converting my truck to 4wd.

Also, when I asked for information on how to do it everyone told me I was an idiot for doing it and to just trade my truck in. Turns out, it really isn’t that hard, didn’t cost nearly as much as everyone said it would and I don’t regret doing it one bit.

Are all of the mounting points for the 4x4 stuff on the 4x2 frame? It would be a really big job thinking of all of the parts and trying to get them all integrated to function without issues.

If you do it post as many pics as possible. It would be cheaper and less headache to trade it in for a 4x4.

Took me a few months to gather all the parts, but only two weekends to do the work. Also, I was able to drive it during the week while only 1/2 through the conversion.

Cost me just about $2200. Which is a lot less than the taxes I would have paid on a new truck.

I could have done it cheaper but I got impatient and also made a few mistakes since I didn’t know what I was doing. I think I’d could do it for about $1800 now.
