There are times when I need the brights to stay on, but because they are in auto, they turn themselves off… For instance, when making a turn. Is there a way to go around this future?

I know I can hold the brights back on the stalk, but that’s not easy to do through a turn.

If you want to have the brights on all the time, just press the "auto high beams button", this will allow you to keep them on at all times. If you press the button in, it turns them off for you. If it's off, then it's your job not to blind oncoming drivers!

If you push the stalk forward it should leave them on all the time

I've found the auto high beams do not dim when they should, just a wonky system. I just control it myself. It might be OK in flat terrains, but in the hilly regions I drive in not so much.

At least it's easier to turn off then our Subaru. If you leave the lights in auto it's always "auto high beams". Gotta turn the lights to the "on" position. Kinda annoying...

Do the High Beam Lights randomly turn themselves off when making a turn ONLY?

Or do they turn off when oncoming lights are approaching? (As they're supposed to)

I installed an aftermarket vintage grill with garnish and Auto High Beam (AHB) is one of the features I tested to make sure the TSS works.

Love this feature because the TSS camera senses at least 200 feet away (if not farther) of approaching headlights.

The auto high beams button (when pressed) will 'sense' when they need to be turned on or off.

I despise this feature and I keep it turned off. It never turns on the high beams when I actually need them because "Oh! You might be driving on a dark road with nobody around in an area full of deer, but your lights reflected off a road sign a quarter mile ahead so no high-beams for you!" Other times, it turns them on and off real fast, giving people the impression that I'm flashing them. Shortly after I bought the truck I was following a friend somewhere and it the auto-brights flashed him like four times and he pulled over, thinking something was wrong. Nope, just the stupid auto high beams. It blows me away that anyone, especially Toyota and the agencies that rank car safety, would consider this an improvement to safety. The ONLY way this would help is by maybe keeping the knuckle-dragging morons who never dim their brights at bay.

    LOL

Sorry...I just read this and had a laugh.

My guess is...state-by-state/country-by-country, location seems to make the AHB (Automatic High Beam) feature incompatible with some drivers.

I've not tested it in Rural Delaware but during my morning drive through some "not-well-lit" urban streets, the feature only switches to low-beam when headlights approach.

I've not had issues with road signs reflecting and making the AHB switch back and forth.

The Tacoma auto high beams are pretty terrible. Way too many times they turn off when there are no headlights or don’t turn off when there are headlights. Or worse, they can’t decide if the oncoming headlights are close enough and decide to flash the other driver a few times.

I tried it a few times and then never turned them on again.

I don't know how these things even ended up in production. They are truly terrible. They either turn off when they shouldn't or stay on way too long.

Yup. I grew up around dark rural roads so it's second nature. I just don't see what's so difficult about flicking the headlight stalk. You don't even need to take your hand off the wheel, your pinky can reach it.

But then again, every time I leave the house it seems I encounter someone who doesn't dim the brights. My favorite are the ones who have a low beam burn out and just ride with the high beams on full-time.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the auto high beams as well.

but I leave mine turned off. When you slow down they high beams auto turn off too. Pain in the butt on country gravel roads out where I live.

Mine turn off from sign reflections and street lights all the time when I used it.

I've used the feature once when I got it, and then once when I was in the back country at night and it worked a solid 7 out of 10.

They're a cool toy, but in my mind nothing more than a toy really.

sometimes I think the design engineers put features on rig as a way to do a mass field test to see how somethings work

Interesting replies. I've never had any of the forementioned issues.

    They work great for me.

I wonder if it's some sensitivity settings that need to be adjusted..
