Have any of you guys turned your sway bar bushings around so the open end side is facing the front of the truck on both sides and so that the meaty side of the bushing is holding the sway bar? I turned mine around yesterday and it just looks so much more secure in the sway bar bracket.

The SB works by twist / torsion. The forces applied by the end links are resisted by the mounts. So, the forces applied to the bushing are into and away from the frame only. Basically in line and opposite to the direction of the end links.

The front and rear sides of the bushings are generally unloaded.

If they were loaded, it would be equal and opposite. Front and rear.

Yes but you can see the pressure on the bushing the sway bar bushing squishing the back of the bushing. With the way the factory had it installed on drivers side the bushing was opened up and looked twisted inside the bracket. By turning it around it looks much more secure and stable

    :notsure:

Regardless of direction, the bushings are just a hinge. There is nothing locating the SB other than the bushings, so the bushings should not be opened up one way or the other. They are the only two parts that fix the position of it.

It’s a good guess that the engineers at Toyota got it backwards.

you would have to be doing something pretty heavy to even worry about the sway bar being not secure (if you still have it). Before I removed mine I bent end links but never any issues it the bar itself. Pretty much a non factor. Only other issues were not swaybar related from other people i have chatted with but installation of shocks incorrectly that put them too close to the swaybar.

But overall if you like it better that way then shouldnt be an issue. I do not think we ever paid attention to the direction of those.

I can’t see any curvature where I’m at either.
