I counter this by keeping a shitload of janky mountain bike helmets, pads, and climbing gear in my truck on a regular basis. Really masks the A/C smell, especially when you park it in the afternoon sun! :puke:

I've never done it and I've never had a problem. However, in Colorado we are super dry so it probably doesn't matter.

I do this every time, heck, I hardly ever use my AC. If I don't turn off AC (both the button, the fan, and turn it to the red on the dial), I have condensation on the metal AC pipe running thru the engine. That condensation drips, and over time, causes rust, unless you build the AC drain spout as others have built on this forum. Rust cause corrosion, which is a no go for me. Recommendation: turn if off 5 minutes before shut off so that the heat of the engine evaporates the condensation on the AC pipe.

I turn my AC on when coasting downhill to help with engine braking.

My old gloves were a crime against humanity. I didn't bother washing them, I just threw them in the campfire, Viking style, when they were totally blew out on our last riding trip.

I know to hose my gloves off when they get so stiff I can't hold onto the bars...

Turn off everything before I shut down the truck. In the old days we had to shut down the air when climbing hills because it sucked too much power from the engine and overheated the system .Try going the back way into Yosemite in the middle of summer with no air, towing a fifth wheel and having two screaming girls in the back seat. It was a real adventure.

I have the same ocd. I turn everything off. And let it idle for a min before turning it off.

Fortifies your immune system and covers the AC stank. Win-win!

Plus all of my friends are climbers and/or bikers so we don't even notice it really.

I don't understand this logic... wouldn't having the A/C on downhill cause more resistance and help *ever so slightly* breaking?

That's why I run the A/C. It puts a load on the engine and helps a bit to control downhill speed.
