I wonder why they did not continue the RSCA, that is a great feature to have.

My bet is that the lawyers got involved. They ruin all of the fun.

More than likely Lawyers, they must be afraid that you will disable them on the street.

I did watch a YouTube Video that was comparing a Tacoma and a Colorado and when the went off road the Colorado popped the side curtain bags.

I watched it about a month ago and I just spent about an hour trying to find it with no luck.
    I'm gonna keep searching though!

They could always put a safety on that like they do with the traction control button. After a certain speed it turns back on.

I'm looking into this as well. I'm sure it's possible to remove power from the airbags via a switch, but I'm not sure if the airbag sensor gets tripped, it wouldn't still go off after you turned the switch back on. If that's a mechanical switch that might be what happens.

Also I sometimes let the dog ride up front and while I still snap him in to the seatbelt and his harness, I'm pretty sure the airbags are not rated for dogs. So to be able to turn off the passenger airbag is important for me too. But now I am getting into a lot of switches.

Hey guys, I work with Toyota. The reason that the 3rd gen does not have the RSCA off button is due to the fact that it now has an Accelerometer built into the truck that not only looks for the angle of the pitch like the Colorado but it also looks for how fast it is rolling or tilted to one side or another. Meaning if you are moving slow and the truck is at a crazy angle they won't deploy but if it is rolling at a higher speed then it will deploy.

Thanks for that info, was really curious why they eliminated that switch.

I imagine some people would forget to turn off the switch. Kinda sucks going back to the dealership only to be told that it's your fault the airbag went off.

There is a video on YouTube of a Tacoma vs Colorado Test and they did an Off Road Segment and the Colorado popped the side bags, I bet GM was not too thrilled when they brought the Truck back.

When off roading I'm always worried about my airbags going off. Is there a fuse I can pull that will disable all airbags while off roading, then just put the fuse back in after I'm done having fun?

Not to bring back up a Necro thread but I have searched to no avail. Is there a fuse on the 3rd Gen you can pull "just in case"? Also with the Accelerometer, at what speed does it kick off/on?

    1. The SR5 has leather but my TRD O/R doesn't? I preffer no leather with the ass blistering heat down here, but really? Damnit toyota.

    2. Did this guy say that the Tacoma has smoother shifting than the colorado? Boi...I dont wanna know the shit storm going on at ColoradoWorld, "is there a way to fix the shifting on these trucks?"

    3. I think he meant the TRD O/R has crawl control...not the SR5...

    4. Is the SR5 really $24K? Does it come with 4hi 4lo and a locking rear? Id be willing to trade my CC for $13K and put that towards mods...

    5. Atleast they didnt bash the Tacoma like TFL does lol.

    1. That's a limited, not an SR5. Clues are the wheels, leather and abundance of chrome trim.
    2.:notsure:
    3. Again, not an SR5 but he said crawl control was available, not that it was on the truck shown.
    4. SR, not SR5 started around 24k in 2017. That was for utility package, 2wd 4cyl. 4wd costs some more, if you want the locker you either have to get the off-road or go aftermarket.
    5. Agreed it seemed like a fair comparison, although now out of date.

The airbag is not designed to only deploy during a collision. It is designed to deploy when the system detects a situation where An event may cause injury or loss of life. To do so, it takes in data from numerous sensors.

It it goes off then it functioned as designed and would not be warrantied.

Slipping off a rock while off-roading is not something you should do. Slipping off a road while driving is not something you should do. Both could cause the airbags to deploy, both could mean nothing.
